About Last Weekend : Intimate "Samgyupsal" Dinner With The Family | Something New For My Parents

in Weekend Experiences10 months ago (edited)

Hello Hive!

It was Sunday. Everyone was around. We went to church in the morning, then, ran our separate errands in the afternoon after some nap time. But before going on our errands, we (I and my siblings) had somewhat like of a mini-planning for our mother's special day the following day, on the 24th of the month. It's her birthday, her 57th. Since everyone had work on that day, we decided to have an advanced kind of celebration, just a simple and intimate one. We thought of a "Samgyupsal Dinner" in the house, believing it would be a better option than going out since Mom didn't feel like dining out that day. So, right after my personal things outside, I dropped by a Korean mart and got the supplies we needed for the special dinner. By 6:00 in the evening, everyone was already home.

My mom has always been curious about what "Samgyupsal" is. She would always butt in whenever she overheard us talking about it, and ask questions like how much, does it taste good, and all that. Days before her birthday, we invited her and Dad for a "Samgyupsal" date (it was not once but many times already), but she refused 'coz she was so concerned about the price, and you know, the typical mom who kept saying "It's a waste of money, you can already do a lot of stuff with the amount you will be paying for each." So, we just behaved and stopped explaining things. She got a point that we understood.

Instead of trying to convince Mom about what we like to do for her on her 57th, we just peacefully settled on what she felt like doing at the moment and just stayed with her in the house. It was my mother's birthday, and we always wanted her to be happy, especially on this very special day.

To give her day a kick of something new, we brought the "Samgyupsal" into the house, and had the kind of dinner we wanted for the day, this is also to take her and Dad's curiosity about it away. No more "what is that?" this time.

SAMGYUPSAL DINNER TIME

We got thinly sliced pork, hotdogs, sausages, lettuce, Kimchi, Ramen, spices like garlic and onion, and its condiments like Gochujang and Ssamjang. We also got red wine to make the dinner even more special.

I and my brother were prepping the dinner, and Mom and Dad were observing how things were done. Seemed like they were really amused. And as for their first time, while at the dinner, we asked them for somewhat like a comment, review, or feedback about the kind of dinner we had. Expectedly, there were both negative and positive comments. Mom doesn't like the idea of still having to do cooking at the dining table, and so does Father. They were like what if you were really hungry, and then you are still to cook what you order before you can eat? Yeah, this makes sense. And I was like, you should never direct to this kind of dining when your stomach is already growling.

However, they liked the food combo, like the sliced pork with the other miscellaneous dipped in savory condiments, and all wrapped in lettuce. Yes, this is also what I liked the most about it. The combo is just so heaven to me. But we somehow prepared other dishes like grilled milkfish just in case, our parents would really not like the "Samgyupsal". Glad, they liked it.

The dinner went well, and I was happy we still got the perfect opportunity to let our parents try something new for my Mom's day despite them turning down our "Samgyupsal" date invitation at our favorite Korean resto. Happier that this kind of advanced simple and intimate celebration was pulled off. Mom was happy, and that is what's always important to us. It is always gratifying to see our parents happy.

It was such a lovely evening with always my softest and safest space on earth, my loved ones. What a heart-flattering weekend experience! It concluded my weekend really awesome.

I think that's all for now! Thank you for giving it your time. I hope you have a great time! Keep safe. See you around!
