Hi everyone! 😊

My exercise of the day consists of making some gesture drawings, which means drawing fast, focusing on body movements, trying to make dynamic curves, etc.

This is a must for me, as I used to make very static drawings.

I did two kinds of dancers, a modern one and a classical one.

What you can see about these two different dancers is that in the classical dance, everything seems to be controlled, as the modern one can have some broken lines, contrary movements, etc.

The classical dancer is more in search of balance, so we have to find more straight lines in our drawings.

You can see in the drawing below that I made a mistake and then I corrected it. First, I made a dancer very unbalanced, which is completely unrealistic, because if the girl was in that position, she would fall. Instead, the second drawing is more accurate because we can trace a straight line from the head to the feet. This is what we call the centre of gravity.

But, the classical dancer also has moments of escape, where she throws her body literally into the air. But she would always do that with lightness. So we should feel very flexible curves. In this sense, I feel my right drawing is not so convincing, because the lines feel a bit broken, it gives a less light feeling in the movement.

I did the drawings below quicker and with fewer strokes, but I think we can feel that lightness there.
