Months ago I had downloaded the novel “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”, its synopsis caught me from the first moment, it seemed to me an interesting story, one of those that you need to know, and also, it has very good opinions from the reading community; however, I thought it would be a light novel, entertaining, to pass the time... I never thought I would end up crying at the end. Evelyn is a character you hate to love, but it's inevitable not to love her.

Hace meses había descargado la novela "Los siete maridos de Evelyn Hugo", su sinopsis me atrapó desde el primer momento, me pareció una historia interesante, de esas que necesitas conocer, y además, tiene muy buenas opiniones de la comunidad lectora; sin embargo, pensé que sería una novela ligera, entretenida, para pasar el rato… nunca pensé que terminaría llorando al final. Evelyn es un personaje que odias amarla, pero es inevitable no amarla.

The novel is divided into seven long chapters, narrating Evelyn's life and each of her marriages. These men came into her life to fulfill a purpose, not by chance, with some she was able to share love, passion, friendship, but also violence, infidelity, and betrayal. Small spoiler: none was a perfect marriage, otherwise she would not have married seven times. However, there are about three who were my favorites, but detailing their stories could be a spoiler, so I will talk in general about these seven men.

The naive Mick Riva was only the temporary solution to a conflict, but instead of improving, it only generated more chaos in Evelyn's life. However, with the cunning Rex North, it is already made clear that Evelyn would do anything to keep her job and position, a marriage where profit reigned and never love.
The brilliant, kind and tortured Harry Cameron will always have a place in my heart, and I am sure he will also earn yours, my favorite husband; love was present here, but not as you imagine it, the book teaches us that romantic love is not the only kind of love that exists in the world, and yet no matter how you express your love, it will always be a powerful force. For example, the disappointing Max Girard teaches that it is possible to fall in love with the idea of a person while ignoring the true essence of who that person is. And finally, the affable Robert Jamison, also earned my appreciation, my second favorite husband, because honestly sometimes you're not looking for romance or passion, you just need the honest and attentive companionship of a person who understands you.

Many tried to bring her down for over thirty years, but none succeeded, she was always one step ahead.
She tells us all the time that the world does not give you things: you must take them. That if someone feels threatened by your presence, it's their problem, they don't have the right to dull your shine, and you don't have the duty to please everyone. Never let anyone make you feel ordinary, and if you are going to have a person by your side, let it at least be someone who after an exhausting day, where you have been working hard to achieve your goals, can stand behind you and hold you up while you fall, and rest.

Jenkins did a great job in creating this character and the way she expresses her story, for a moment you forget it's just fiction, and you feel it's a real person giving you a life lesson; the secret is in that the context of the facts is real, you can imagine the existence of an Evelyn Hugo in Hollywood history, they already exist, they are there, several of them can be Evelyn, that's why it's so easy to connect with the novel, you can really be reading the biography of a real person.
I also appreciate that part of the story is summarized with “magazine articles”, there are details that are important, but instead of including them in the narrative, Jenkins gives them to us as if we were reading a gossip magazine. On the other hand, in the search of giving us a character that feels real, we are not going to read a pink story, because real life is not like that, even the big stars hit bottom countless times; and, however, it is not a heavy reading, it never got boring (I read the book in two days), it is short and concise, when the situation is normalizing something significant happens, and that, in addition, time goes by, more than fifty years pass in the whole book, you will never feel it static, it is perfect for those who have a reader's block.
Jenkins hizo un gran trabajo en la creación de este personaje y la manera en que expresa su historia, por un momento olvidas que es solo ficción, y sientes que es una persona real dándote una lección de vida; el secreto se encuentra en que el contexto de los hechos es real, puedes imaginar la existencia de una Evelyn Hugo en la historia de Hollywood, ya existen, están ahí, varias de ellas pueden ser Evelyn, por eso es tan fácil conectar con la novela, puedes estar realmente leyendo la biografía de una persona real.
También aprecio que parte de la historia se resume con “artículos de revistas”, hay detalles que son importantes, pero en lugar de incluirlos en la narración, Jenkins nos los da como si estuviéramos leyendo una revista de chismes. Por otro lado, en la búsqueda de darnos un personaje que sienta real, no vamos a leer una historia rosa, porque la vida real no es así, incluso las grandes estrellas tocan fondo en incontables veces; y, sin embargo, no es una lectura pesada, nunca se me hizo aburrida (me leí el libro en dos días), es corto y conciso, cuando la situación se está normalizando sucede algo importante, y que, además, el tiempo transcurre, pasan más de cincuenta años en todo el libro, nunca lo vas a sentir estático, es perfecto para los que tengan un bloqueo lector.
Evelyn Hugo may have had seven marriages, she may have loved different people in different ways, but she was lucky enough to have one great love, the love of her life, and that was one of the biggest mysteries the book tells, who did Evelyn Hugo really love? And believe me, it's worth reading and knowing.
Evelyn helped Monique Grant to take charge of her life, and she helps you to take charge of yours too, but she always makes it clear that no matter the luxuries, money, fame or success, the most important thing will always be the people you love, those who took the time to know you, to support you, and to love you as you are, those people you choose as family, they can be as valuable as gold.
It's a very good novel, and as a woman I tell you it's worth reading, it helps you to remember the great value you have in this world🩷

Tu reseña me dejó picada, sobre todo porque no es la primera reseña que me llega de éste libro y todas apuntan a que es una excelente historia, creo recordar que hace tiempo llegué a cruzarme con un spoiler de éste libro 🤣, quizás por eso me ha frenado de leerlo, pero definitivamente ahora estoy más picada 🤣.

Al principio pensé que iba a ser una historia romántica pero seguí leyendo y como nada que ver con esa idea, ahora me llama mucho la atención el libro 🤭.
Parece una historia interesante con una perspectiva muy distinta. No había escuchado de este libro antes, pero definitivamente se ve como una muy buena historia.
