Hello Hello Community! ✨, Do you remember I told you that I had read The Love Hypothesis and I had become obsessed with this author's stories? well here is the evidence of it, and it turns out that every book I read by her I love more than the previous one, for some it may seem repetitive, but I love all this scientific context, especially because I feel that as the author is part of this same environment, she gives us a clear and real vision of how it is for women to be part of this field, because if you don't know, these books apart from the romance (which is my favourite thing), also talk about the machismo that exists in the scientific community, and I think that even in this particular book it can be evidenced a little more, so I won't say more, and let's go with my review of Love on the Brain 🧠💕.
Bee Königswasser is a neuroscientist and complete fan of Marie Curie, who has had an unfortunate working life where she has had to make do with basically the crumbs of academia, but a great job opportunity has knocked on her door, to lead a neuroimaging project for none other than NASA, This would definitely be a job that Dr Marie Curie would not turn down, even if it meant co-leading the project with her biggest rival, in this case Levi Ward, because after all this is the great job opportunity that Bee had hoped for, and she just has to arm herself with patience to put up with her partner and thus manage to get out of this job victorious, or at least make the best effort 🤣.
Because when Levi made his feelings clear to Bee at university, it was clear that the two of them should work in, if possible, separate galaxies, but it turns out that Levi is not bad at all, and when Bee has to complain about his apparent interference in her work, she discovers that perhaps working alongside him is not the most disastrous thing she's ever experienced.
Following the order of the "trilogy" of books published by the author Ali Hazelwood where she presents us romantic stories in the scientific field, this would be the second novel published, and although these are self-conclusive books and whose stories are not related to each other (at least The Love Hypothesis and this one), it is true that it is recommended to read them in order of publication, however I really consider that these first two books can be read in the order you prefer, which you can not do with the third one, which I will talk about in another post. Just as The Love Hypothesis had a central cliché where the story was structured, the same happens in this book, where we have the cliché of "rivals to lovers", there is also a complete story about a secret part that our protagonist keeps, and which connects with another character that from the beginning you know who he is, However, none of this was what I found most interesting about the story, but the way in which the author reflects the machismo and rejection that exists in the field of engineering towards neuroscience, and from men towards women, even the protagonist constantly makes fun of aspects that occur throughout the book.
In this case, again we have a narrative purely from the perspective of the protagonist, but in this case in first person (unlike the other book), and something that I really liked about this narrative in general, which I don't remember having seen in another book, is that on several occasions the protagonist speaks directly to the reader and I thought that was a total success, especially because she usually does it in moments where she seeks to make fun of certain patriarchal behaviours, and that genuinely made me laugh a lot. I feel that one negative aspect that I could highlight about this book is its great resemblance to The Love Hypothesis, I feel that physically Levi and Adam are not very different, and at the beginning of the story there is no major difference in their way of being, in fact, having read them one very close to the other in terms of time, sometimes it was hard for me to realise that I was reading different books, because here we have a repeated pattern in both stories and that is the orphan protagonist, and although in this case Bee has a sister unlike Olive, we still have this repeated element that makes both stories very similar.
Even so, something that happens to me with these books by Ali Hazelwood, is that I like one more than the other, and this tells me a lot about the evolution that she has as an author from one book to another, despite their similarities in terms of descriptions and some elements, the writing is a bit different.
Now, with the main characters I have a certain imbalance in my opinions, and this is because I liked the character of Levi more than the character of Bee, although both are very well constructed, I personally failed to connect with Bee and in fact on many occasions she became an unbearable character, because although the author tries to "justify" certain thoughts and decisions with her family past and with the traumatic outcome of her previous relationship, in the end for me this is not enough for how hurtful certain behaviours she adopts can be. And although I wouldn't say that Bee is a toxic female protagonist, it is true that in comparison to Levi, there is an imbalance. Because unlike Bee, Levi is her opposite both in character and in emotional responsibility 👀, here we do have a declaration of love from our male lead, which you know that in the Love Hypothesis I indicated that the lack of a declaration was one of the weak points of that story, well here we do have our male protagonist declaring his feelings to the female protagonist, and not only declaring his feelings, but hers too 🤣 because as I said, Bee is not very emotional responsibility.
I have to say that I didn't see the "villain" of this story coming at first, and although at the end I had my suspicions, I can't deny that it left me with a bitter taste, especially because he seemed like a genuine and sympathetic character, with whom I got to connect; Also the way in which the denouement unfolded seemed to me a bit of soap opera melodrama, it was fun I won't deny it, but it did feel like being in a soap opera, or in those movies where first everything is romance and at the end there is a risk of life and conspiracy 🤣. And while I don't want to touch too much on the subject of Bee and her former "best friend", I'll just say that if you read the book or already did, I will never agree with the decision the author made for the direction of that relationship.

¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, ¿Se acuerdan que les dije que habia leído la Hipótesis del Amor y me había obsesionado con las historias de ésta autora?, pues aquí está la evidencia de ello, y es que resulta que cada libro que leo de ella me encanta más que el anterior, para algunos puede llegar a parecer repetitivo, pero a mí me encanta todo éste contexto científico, sobre todo porque siento que al ser la autora parte de éste mismo medio, nos da una visión clara y real de cómo es para las mujeres ser parte de éste ámbito, porque si no lo sabes, éstos libros aparte del romance (que es mi cosa favorita), también hablan sobre el machismo que existe en la comunidad científica, y creo que incluso en éste libro en particular se puede evidenciar un poco más, así que no me extiendo más, y vamos con mi reseña de La Química del Amor 🧠💕.
Bee Königswasser es una neurocientifica y completa fan de Marie Curie, quien además le ha tocado vivir una desafortunada vida laboral en donde ha tenido que conformarse con básicamente las migajas del ambito académico, sin embargo una gran oportunidad laboral ha tocado a su puerta, para liderar un proyecto de neuroimagen para nada más y nada menos que la NASA, definitivamente éste sería un trabajo que la Dra Marie Curie no rechazaría, incluso si el mismo requiriera codirigir el proyecto con su mayor rival, en éste caso Levi Ward, porque al fin y al cabo ésto es la gran oportunidad laboral que Bee había esperado, y solo tiene que armarse de paciencia para soportar a su compañero y así lograr salir victoriosa de éste trabajo, o al menos hacer el mayor esfuerzo 🤣.
Porque cuando Levi dejó claro sus sentimientos hacía Bee en la universidad, quedó claro que ambos debían trabajar en, si es posible, galaxias separadas, pero resulta que Levi no está nada mal, y cuando a Bee le toca reclamar por su aparente interferencia en su trabajo, descubre que quizás, trabajar junto a él no sea los más desastroso que haya vivido.
Siguiendo el orden de la “trilogía” de libros publicados por la autora Ali Hazelwood en donde nos presenta historias románticas en el ámbito científico, ésta sería la segunda novela publicada, y aunque éstos son libros autoconclusivos y cuyas historias no tienen relación entre sí (al menos la Hipótesis del Amor y éste), sí es verdad que se recomienda leerlos en orden de publicación, sin embargo yo realmente considero que éstos dos primeros libros sí se pueden leer en el orden que uno prefiera, cosa que no se puede hacer con el tercero, de cual hablaré en otro post. Así como la Hipótesis del Amor tenía un cliché central en donde se estructuraba su historia, lo mismo pasa en éste libro, en donde tenemos el cliché de “rivals to lovers”, existe además una historia completaria acerca de una parte secreta que mantiene nuestra protagonista, y la cual conecta con otro personaje que desde el inicio sabes quién es, sin embargo nada de esto fue lo que me resultó más interesante de la historia, sino el modo en como la autora refleja el machismo y el rechazo que existe en el ámbito de la ingeniería hacía las neurociencias, y de los hombres hacía las mujeres, incluso la protagonista se burla constantemente de aspectos que ocurren a lo largo del libro.
En éste caso, nuevamente tenemos una narrativa netamente desde la perspectiva de la protagonista, pero en éste caso en primera persona (a diferencia del otro libro), y algo que me gustó mucho de ésta narrativa en general, que no recuerdo haber visto en otro libro, es que en varias oportunidades la protagonista le habla directamente al lector y a mí eso me pareció un acierto total, sobre todo porque suele hacerlo en momentos donde busca burlarse de ciertas conductas patriarcalistas, y que genuinamente a mí me hicieron reír un montón. Siento que un aspecto negativo que podría resaltar de éste libro es su gran parecido con la Hipótesis del Amor, siento que físicamente Levi y Adam no se diferencian mucho, y al inicio de la historia tampoco hay mayor diferencia en su forma de ser, de hecho por haberlos leído uno muy cerca del otro en términos de tiempo, a veces me costaba hacer consciencia de que estaba leyendo libros distintos, porque además aquí tenemos un patrón repetido en ambas historias y es el de protagonistas huérfanas, que aunque en éste caso Bee tiene una hermana a diferencia de Olive, igualmente tenemos éste elemento repetido que justamente hace que ambas historias sea muy parecidas.
Aún así, algo que me pasa con éstos libros de Ali Hazelwood, es que uno me gusta más que el otro, y ésto me dice mucho de la evolución que ella como autora va teniendo de un libro a otro, pese a sus similitudes en cuanto a descripciones y algunos elementos, la escritura sí se tiene un poco diferente.
Ahora bien, con los protagonistas principales tengo cierto desbalance en mis opiniones, y ésto se debe a que el personaje de Levi me agradó más que el personaje de Bee, aunque ambos están muy bien construidos, yo personalmente no logre conectar con Bee y de hecho en muchas ocasiones se me hizo un personaje insoportable, porque aunque la autora intenta “justificar” ciertos pensamientos y decisiones con su pasado familiar y con el traumático desenlace de su relación anterior, al final para mí ésto no es suficiente para lo hiriente que pueden llegar a ser ciertas conductas que adopta.Y aunque yo no diría que Bee es una protagonista femenina tóxica, sí es cierto que en comparación con Levi, sí se genera un desbalance. Porque a diferencia de Bee, Levi es su opuesto tanto en carácter como en responsabilidad afectiva 👀, aquí sí tenemos una declaración de amor por parte de nuestra pronta masculino, que saben que en la Hipótesis del Amor yo indiqué que la falta de una declaración era uno de los puntos débiles de esa historia, pues aquí sí tenemos a nuestro protagonista masculino declarandole sus sentimientos a la protagonista femenina, y no solo declarando los suyos, sino los de ella también 🤣 porque como dije, Bee no es tiene mucha responsabilidad afectiva.
He de decir que al “villano” de ésta historia no lo ví venir en un principio, y aunque al final ya tenía mis sospechas, no puedo negar que me dejó con un sabor amargo, sobre todo porque me parecía un personaje genuino y simpático, con el cual llegué a conectar; además la forma en como se desarrollo el desenlace me pareció un poco de melodrama de telenovela, fue divertido no lo voy a negar, pero sí se sintió tal cual como estar en una novela, o en esas películas donde primero todo es romance y al final hay riesgo de vida y conspiración 🤣. Y aunque no quiero tocar mucho el tema de Bee y su antigua “mejor amiga”, solo diré que si lees el libro o ya lo hiciste, jamás estaré de acuerdo con la decisión que tomó la autora para el rumbo de esa relación.

Diablos!! Pero es que si yo me pongo a leer esto no saldría de este bucle de romance, drama y competencia a la vez 🤣 aunque la historia en general se lee muy buena, aunque se espera el típico cliché de rivales y enamoramiento la final, mientras tengan un buen desenvolvimiento, se nota entretenido 🤔
Está fue una de mis lecturas del año pasado, a pesar de todo lo disfruté aunque como dice es practica la misma historia pero con otros personajes jajaja
