El siglo XX es considerado un siglo con grandes acontecimientos, entre ellos las 2 Guerras Mundiales que se dieron, y la posterior Guerra fría. Ken Follett, reconocido escritor, decidió mediante una trilogía de novelas históricas, llamada The Century, mostrar lo que pasó en ese siglo, comenzando con el título que reseño. Publicado en 2010.

Sinopsis: Los eventos del libro ocurren en las primeras décadas del siglo XX. Conoceremos a diversos personajes viviendo su día a día, estos se encuentran repartidos por los países involucrados, como Reino Unido o Rusia, en lo que será el primer gran conflicto global, la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Synopsis: The events of the book take place in the first decades of the twentieth century. We will meet various characters living their daily lives, these are spread across the countries involved, such as the United Kingdom or Russia, in what will be the first major global conflict, the First World War.

La diversidad de personajes servirá no solo para mostrar sus historias personales, sino para mostrar los diversos eventos que se irán dando alrededor del mundo, como la Revolución Rusa o la ascensión del Partido Laborista en Reino Unido. Pero es sin duda, la Gran Guerra, la que marcará el devenir de los personajes, enfrentándose o dándoles una perspectiva diferente a lo que habían vivido hasta el momento.
The diversity of characters will serve not only to show their personal stories, but also to show the various events that will take place around the world, such as the Russian Revolution or the rise of the Labor Party in the United Kingdom. But it is undoubtedly the Great War, which will mark the future of the characters, facing or giving them a different perspective to what they had lived so far.
En lo que se refiere a la Primera Guerra Mundial, es interesante ver cómo se formó el conflicto, que algo al comienzo bastante pequeño, irá generando respuestas seguidas de más respuestas, que solo agrandaran el problema, y acabará arrastrando a la muerte a innumerables vidas.
As far as the First World War is concerned, it is interesting to see how the conflict was formed, that something quite small at the beginning, will generate answers followed by more answers, which will only enlarge the problem, and will end up dragging countless lives to death.
Entre las historias personales veremos historias de amor, política, pobreza, crimen, etc; mostrando una variedad de situaciones para los personajes. La mezcla de los sucesos más terrenales con los grandes eventos, hace bastante entretenido el libro.
Among the personal stories we will see stories of love, politics, poverty, crime, etc; showing a variety of situations for the characters.The mixture of the more everyday events with the big events, makes the book quite entertaining.
Es un libro fácil de leer, que ya desde el primer capítulo, hace una buena presentación de personajes, con personalidades bien definidas y que se siente viven con las preocupaciones de su lugar y momento. Eso sí, por la gran cantidad de personajes y eventos, el libro alcanza una gran cantidad de páginas, superando las 1000.
It is an easy to read book, that already from the first chapter, makes a good presentation of characters, with well defined personalities and that you feel they live with the concerns of their place and time. Of course, because of the large number of characters and events, the book reaches a large number of pages, exceeding 1000.
El título me ha gustado bastante, espero algún día seguir con los siguientes libros de la colección, está marcado entre mis objetivos de este año. Recomendable.
