THE VICTORY DAY: THE 79th ANNIVERSARY

in Cross Culturelast month (edited)

The 9th of May is a great Day for many countries because it's a holy anniversary of the victory over fascism.
The World War II touched dozens of countries, that's why today it's a holiday for veterans and their families who live all over the world.
It's a holiday with "tears in our eyes" as our popular war song says because this victory had a very high price - more than 5,000,000 of dead soldiers for 4 years...

The next year we'll have the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory, and this year we celebrate the 80th Anniversary of freedom of Crimea.
In 1944 Soviet soldiers won fascists and made Crimean land free.

Every year my country had great celebrations, parades and firewerks this day. Now the military situation in the counry is so special and so dangerous, that we don't have huge celebrations now.
Only in Moscow there was a great parade that was broadcasted to dozens of channels, and we could see this powerful beauty.

But despite in Kerch there were no loud celebrations, people gave much honour to this day.
Kids and parents bought special flags of Victory, brought flowers to military monuments, sang war songs in the center of the city.
We did have this great holiday atmosphere despite cold weather and military restrictions in the country.

Great Victory, guys!

many people like to decorate their cars with Victory Flags and put there portraits of veterans of their families who took part in the WWII

some people put photos of them on their windows

many people wear military clothes of that time

veterans are main people of this great day

early we had parades in the center of any city in the country where all veterans were invited, but now because of military restrictions all mass events are forbidden, that's why parades are organised near houses of all veterans in the city
they really come there and give their honour and thank veterans for the Victory

This is a Holy Day of the Great Victory!

My grandparents both participated in that bloody war, and my parents always tell about it with great pride and pain.
We didn't see that hard times.
But we do keep the memory of it in our hearts.
We have a chance to live now thanks to this ver great holiday.

Happy Victory Day to your beautiful family, Talia.

Thanks!

thank you!!
it's not celebrated in your place?

Correct. Here we have Independence Day, on the 4th of July, and the descendants of slaves have Freedom Day, or Juneteenth, on the 19th of June.
