Hello Hivers passionate about growing and information about succulent plants in this community. With great enthusiasm, today I bring you the first update of hybrid plants achieved from seeds in my personal succulent plant collection. All the plants I grow and hybridize belong to the Stapeliinae subtribe of the Apocynaceae family and are popularly known as carrion flowers or star flowers. The popular name of this group of plants originates from the smell of decomposition that the flowers of many of them emit to attract their pollinators (flies). Part of my genetic improvement objectives is to reduce this odor as much as possible to prevent the aroma from bothering growers. I am primarily looking for attractive color patterns, little or no odor, and resistance to pathogens and unfavorable weather conditions.
Hola Hivers apasionados por el cultivo e información sobre plantas suculentas de esta comunidad. Con mucho entusiasmo, hoy les traigo la primera actualización de plantas híbridas logradas a partir de semillas en mi colección de plantas suculentas personal. Todas las plantas que cultivo e hibrido pertenecen a la subtribu Stapeliinae de la familia Apocynaceae y son conocidas popularmente como flores de carroña o flores estrella. El nombre popular de este grupo de plantas se origina por el olor a descomposición que expelan las flores de muchas de ellas para atraer a sus polinizadores (moscas). Parte de mis objetivos de mejoramiento genético es reducir lo máximo posible dicho olor para evitar que el aroma moleste a los cultivadores. Estoy buscando principalmente patrones de coloración atractivos, poco u olor nulo y resistencia a patógenos y condiciones climáticas desfavorables.
I currently have more than 350 hybrids in the adult state and more than 900 in the primary development phase. For this year I aim to reach a figure close to or greater than 600 adult hybrids and more than 1000 in the juvenile phase. Actualmente cuento con más de 350 híbridos en estado adulto y más de 900 en fase de desarrollo primario. Para este año tengo como objetivo alcanzar una cifra cercana o superior a los 600 híbridos adultos y más de 1000 en fase juvenil. En el post de hoy, les comparto la floración de 4 nuevos híbridos que alcanzan la fase adulta en mi colección. La fase adulta en las plantas comienza con la formación de la primera flor.
