Visit to "Portela" a village with history.🧭🚩

Hello travel lovers, I'm stopping by to leave you with this new adventure! Today I drove thirty minutes from Seixal to the protected area of the Arrábida specifically in "Azeitão" to visit a small village founded in the 15th century. Currently there are many trails that we can travel in various possible ways. In total there is an extension of 6km, this area it is known for selling one of the best wines on the southern edge of Lisbon and has, for me, the best beaches in Portugal! Join me in this experience!🌍🏕️

To get to the beginning of the Trail you can use these coordinates on your GPS: (38.487804, -9.029718) or orient yourself with the camping park: (YMCA Camp Alambre) which is right next to the signage. As you can see, it tells us that to get to the village is 1.5km, however I will extend the route to 6km round trip, and for this I am going to pass through a village called "Casais da Serra", it is worth it because we get much closer to the mountains and the landscape is beautiful!🌲🧭

With these beautiful photos we are able to answer a question... What is the best season to do this trail? Clearly in the spring the weather is quite pleasant, there is not much wind, the temperature on a sunny day can reach 26 degrees, in addition the landscape is filled with flowers of all kind of species, many shrubs and fruit plants attract a large number of insects which makes our experience towards the village fantastic! It is not a difficult trail, so it is enough to wear hiking boots.🌍🚵🏻

While I am walking I am photographing various types of spiders and butterflies around me, as well as the predominant vegetation of the area, which is the typical Mediterranean Forest. In summer, the change in the landscape is distinctive and xerophytic plants or plants that are more resistant to 40 degrees temperatures predominate, so the trail gives us the opportunity to visit it at different times of the year and see a different atmosphere! I only recommend caution in winter, puddles of water form and there is a lot of mud!🌼🧭🚩

Arrabida mountain range🌼

A little about the "Arrabida" mountain range, it is one of the natural places in Portugal which, due to its biodiversity and historical contribution, was classified as a reserve and environmental protection area in the 1960s. Here we can visit caves, beaches, trails, between many other things! It is so extensive that it occupies almost half of the southern surface of the country and in terms of price-quality it is ideal for spending a vacation. You can pay a hotel at 70 euros per day!🧭🌏👩‍🏫

Despite being close to the village, the remaining kilometer is more or less long because there are many curves up and down, so it's not a straight line! I read a little about the village and the first occupants in "Azeitão" were dedicated to agriculture and dates back to the era of discoveries! Producing wine was a form of local trade!🚵🏻🌍

¿Qué tal el acceso al sendero y al pueblo?🌍🏕️🌻

The access to the trail is very easy, you won't get lost! Can you access by vehicle? Yes, of course! Both from the village and on the main road where the signs are, finding your way is quite easy because it is signposted throughout the entire route! My personal opinion is to do it from the beginning on the way to the village "Portela" because if you do it from the Village you could get disoriented. In either of the two options, you can park your vehicle!🌍🌲

This is one of the first stops we can make on the trail, it is a "drinking fountain" which I do not recommend drinking the water because it could be contaminated but it does serve to cool you off and believe me, in the summer you are going to need it because it is very hot! In the background we see rocks that are typical of the area. I don't know what they are made of, but they are porous. There are many caves here!🌍🌻🧭

And finally we arrived at the famous village of Portela, at first glance it is a fairly small place, I dare to say that there should not be more than 200 people here, the village is located in "Azeitão" which is a parish which was founded in the 15th century, the name is due to the large expanses of olive trees, some points have remains that were inhabited by nomads probably in the bronze age!🌍🚩

In this area the climate is appropriate for the cultivation and planting of various species of grapes, in fact if we look in some supermarkets we can see many brands that come from this area, if the topic of grapes and wines is something of your interest you can book an activity in many local companies to taste wines, learn about the industry, among others!🌲🌼🌍
