Fish, food, beer, and a friendly buzzard. What a great #beersaturday!

This #beersaturday I am enjoying a weekend fishing with my dad and my best friend. The setting is idyllic, the sun is shining, and the mood is peaceful, and stress free. Most important of all, the beers are ice cold and plentiful 😎

As we’re here for a long time (48hrs), I thought it best not to bring along my usual stock of high strength beers. I’ve made that mistake before and ended up in quite a messy state. So, for this trip I decided to buy a couple of those packs of petite French beers. At 4% these cheeky little bevies will do no harm and I can happily drink away until the wee hours of the night. They’re crisp, refreshing and surprisingly tasty. Perfect for a long weekend under a blazing sun 🌞

As for the fishing itself, well, let’s just say that we’re eating much more than they are. 24hrs have past and so far I’m the only one of the 3 of us to catch a fish. I had a beautiful Ghost Carp late last night, a Grass Carp first thing this morning, and then a nice sized Tench not long after. However, apart from these 3 fish the lake seems quite lifeless and we’re struggling to catch.

Nonetheless, it’s still a chilled out time with plenty of food and conversation. In fact, I sometimes wonder if we prioritise our own feasts over that of the fish we try to lure to the bank.

Chorizo meatballs and rice 😋 not a bad start for a camping session. And then there’s the bacon cheeseburgers, and not forgetting the full English fry-up for breakfast. I guess if the fish aren’t eating then we may as well have their share of the banquet.

Apart from the food and beer, we’ve also been treated to rather tame Buzzard. No we haven’t eaten the buzzard. This beautiful creature was waiting on the gatepost when we arrived and hasn’t left our side since then.

Since arriving he pops over to us whenever we’re cooking and seems to enjoy having dinner with us all. It’s amazing how close this bird of prey has gotten to us, and his appetite for bacon and sausage matches our own! It’s a great source of entertainment, especially as there seem to be no fish around 🤷‍♂️

Hopefully the fishing will start to catch up with the entertainments. We’ve got just under 24hrs left but I’m hoping the fish will begin to get hungry at some point. Until then I’ll just have to relax and enjoy the view. Not a bad problem to have 🙂
