After the pandemic, which deeply affected our lives for about two years, there has been a global travel craze. I would travel abroad every year before the pandemic. Since it became more difficult to go abroad due to the restrictions of the pandemic and the subsequent inflationary period, I had started to make my travel plans domestically for the last two years. I also mentioned this in my Aegean tour and day-trip post. However, it was the time for me to start to travel abroad. In the sixth part of my Thessaloniki travel post series, I will write about Sani Beach, which is locatedin Kassandra area of Halkidki.

Yaklaşık iki yıldır hayatımızı derinden etkileyen pandemiden sonra küresel çapta bir seyahat çılgınlığı yaşanıyor. Pandemiden önce her yıl yurtdışı seyahatleri yapan biriydim. Pandeminin getirdiği seyahat kısıtlamaları ve sonrasında gelen enflasyonist dönem nedeniyle yurtdışına çıkmak iyice zorlaştığından ben de seyahat planlarımı son iki yıldır yurtiçine yönelik yapmaya başlamıştım. Bunu Ege turu ve günübirlik yaptığım seyahat yazılarında da belirtmiştim. Buna karşın, benim için artık yurtdışı seyahatlerime başlamanın zamanı gelmişti. Selanik gezisi yazı serimin beşinci bölümünde sizlere Halkidiki’nin Kassandra bölgesinde bulunan Sani Plajı’ndan bahsedeceğim.
In the fourth post of my Thessaloniki tour, I wrote about Roman Agora, Anopoli and Heptapyrgion, which are also within walking distance of each other.
Selanik turumun dördüncü yazısında sizlere yine birbirlerine yürüme mesafesinde olan Roman Pazarı, Yukarı Şehir (Anopoli) ve Yedikule’den (Heptapyrgion) bahsetmiştim.
From the Yedikule area we walked down the narrow, cobblestone streets of Anopoli to Thessaloniki city center. It was a long, tiring but productive day for us in terms of travel. After eating something at a restaurant, we went to the hotel and rested. We were going to get up early in the morning because we had plans to go to a beach in the Halkidiki peninsula on the last day and even swim in the sea if possible.
Yedikule bölgesinden aşağıya doğru Anopoli’nin dar, arnavut kaldırımlı sokaklarından Selanik merkeze yürüdük. Bizim için uzun, yorucu ama gezi açısından bir o kadar verimli bir gün olmuştu. Bir restoranda bir şeyler yedikten sonra otele geçip dinlendik. Sabah erken kalkacaktık çünkü son gün Halkidiki yarımadasında bir sahile gitme hatta mümkünse denize grime planımız vardı.
We got up around 7 o'clock in the morning and set off. We were going to take the buses from Thessaloniki bus terminal to Halkidiki. First, we had breakfast in such an authentic place, close to Aristotelous Square. Then we walked for about 20 minutes towards the bus terminal.
Sabah saat 7 gibi kalkıp yola çıktık. Selanik otobüs terminalinden Halkidiki’ye giden otobüslere binecektik. Önce Aristotelous Meydanı’na yakın, böyle otantik bir yerde kahvaltı yaptık. Sonra otobüs terminaline doğru yaklaşık 20 dakika yürüdük.
We got on the bus that departed at 9 o'clock to the Kassandra region of Halkidiki. We paid 20 Euros for two people. After for about an hour and a half bus ride, we arrived in Kassandra.
Halkidiki’nin Kassandra bölgesine giden saat 9’da kalkan otobüsüne bindik. İki kişi 20 Euro ödedik. Yaklaşık bir buçuk saat yolcuğun ardından Kassandra’ya vardık.
There are many beaches and coats to see in the Halkidiki peninsula. Since we would be leaving Thessaloniki to Istanbul at 21:00, we chose the beach called Sani, one of the closest beaches to Thessaloniki. We arrived at the beach around 11 o'clock. The weather was warm, sunny and suitable for swimming. We rented two sun beds. After resting for a while, we ate and drank something. The sea was still warm. The beach and the sea were just like any other place in the other side of Aegean Sea. After swimming for about half an hour, we sunbathed on this beautiful beach for an hour on an autumn day. Then, we visited the other sides of the beach. Seeing the yachts and hotels on the shore, I think these places adress ultra-luxury people.
Halkidiki yarımadasında görülecek bir çok plaj ve sahil var. Saat 21:00’de İstanbul’a hareket edeceğimiz için Selanik’e en yakın plajlardan biri olan Sani isimli plajı seçtik. Saat 11 gibi plaja varmıştık. Have sıcak, güneşli ve denize girmeye elverişliydi. İki tane şezlong kiraladık. Biraz dinlendikten sonra birşeyler yiyip içtik. Deniz suyu hala sıcaktı. Kumsal ve deniz aynen bizim Ege denizindeki herhangi bir yer gibiydi. Bir sonbahar gününde yaklaşık yarım saat denize girdikten sonra bir saat de bu güzel kumsalda güneşlendik. Daha sonra plajın diğer taraflarını gezdik. Kıyıdaki yatlar ve otellere bakınca, buralar sanırım ultra lüks insanlara hitap eden yerler.
We left the beach around 16:00. After a one and a half hour bus ride, we returned to Thessaloniki. Since we planned to return to Istanbul by bus, we got off at Thessaloniki bus station and waited for the Istanbul bus that would depart at 21:00.
Saat 16 gibi plajdan ayrıldık. Bir buçuk saatlik otobüs yolculuğundan sonra tekrar Selanik’e döndük. İstanbul’a dönüşü otobüsle ile planladığımızdan Selanik otogarında inip saat 21’deki İstanbul otobüsünü bekledik.
Before finishing my Thessaloniki tour travel post series, I would like to say a few things about Thessaloniki. If you have been to Greece before, you may have noticed how similar the Greek culture, food, music, etc. are to ours. I can say that Thessaloniki is one step ahead of this. Both the historical texture of the city and the fact that most of the ancestors of the city's residents immigrated from Turkiye, bring Thessaloniki closer to us. While visiting Thessaloniki, you will notice that some parts of the city resemble Izmir and some resemble Istanbul. The most important thing is that the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born and raised in this city. I hope you will have the opportunity to visit this beautiful city some day.
Selanik turu gezi yazısı serimi bitirmeden önce Selanik ile ilgili birkaç bir şey söylemek istiyorum. Daha önceden Yunanistan’a gitmişseniz, Yunan kültürünün, yemeklerinin, müziklerinin v.s bize ne kadar benzediğiniz fark etmişsinizdir. Selanik şehri ise bunun bir adım ilerisinde diyebilirim. Gerek şehrin tarihsel dokusu gerek şehirde yaşayanların atalarının büyük bir kısmının Türkiye’den göç etmiş olması, Selanik’i bize daha çok yakınlaştırıyor. Selanik’i gezerken şehrin bir kısmının İzmir’e bir kısmının ise İstanbul’a benzediğini fark edeceksiniz. En önemlisi ise Ulu Önder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün bu şehirde doğup büyümüş olmasıdır. Umarım sizler de bir gün bu güzel şehri gezme fırsatı bulursunuz.

Yurt dışına henüz çıkmadım. Yunanistan ve özellikle Selanik şehri görmeyi istediğim yerlerden biridir. Selanik turu yazı serisini çoğunluğunu okudum. Hepsini resimlerle ve bizlere yansıttığın cümlelerde samimi güzel ifade etmişsin. Son paragrafta Selanik ile ilgili yaptığın düşünceler tam bir nokta atışı olmuş. Güzel resimlerle bu gezi turuna bizleri de ortak ettiğin için çok teşekkürler.

I have never been to Greece despite hearing so many stories from my friends and family who are regularly going almost every summer! I do live by the Mediterranean Sea, and it resembles a lot to the Greek coast, but there are also a lot of differences...
For example, I didn't know that Ataturk was born in Thessaloniki and that it had a big influence on that part of Greece! Thanks for sharing your photos and a story around it!

You are welcome mate. Greece was ruled by Ottoman Empires for about 500 years, and the born of Atatürk comes across the last years of the reign.
