Special family time and then tumbling waters of Bomaderry Creek : May 20 2024

in Actifit28 days ago (edited)

Got a different day lined up. Meeting up with my son and his family up the road in Berry. They have some stuff to do in town

Meeting in the new play park next to the new bypass and at the foot of the mountains

Main entrance - council has done a good job creating a play park to cater for all sorts of kids and to keep them interested

Road rule street area

Mini bmx track behind the skate park

High climbing and a big slide at the end

And a great location under a blue sky and the mountains

Met my son in town as he was admiring this poinsettia

Scarlett loves to walk - very resolute

Every now and then she would stop to look back at what I was up to

She loved the flying monkey with her mum - especially when the end of line came and the bounce back

Riding side saddle with her dad

All three enjoying a swing

Nothing a kid loves more than playing in sand and water

All those hours spent putting blocks in holes pays off here putting the plug in the water trough

We walked into town to get a coffee. Was a good way to catch up - no agenda other than chatting and letting Scarlett have fun

Went from Berry to Bomaderry to do some shopping - walked Bomaderry Creek just behind the shops

View from the lookout over the old weir. Last time I walked across from the other side by rock hopping - too much water now

Bomaderry is the Aboriginal word for tumbling waters - some evidence below

The creek has carved out a ravine about 100 metres deep and 200 metres across with steep sides

Lively colours on this mushroom

This little was prepared to pose about 5 metres away

View over the cliff to the creek below

Next slice of tumbling waters

Mini bright orange mushroom

Track dropped down to the creek - walked along that for a while. The sand below the sign tells you how high the water comes - 10 metres above the creek at least

Did find orchids high up on the rocks - cestichis reflexa

One flower open - way above my head - too hard to get close for a good photo

Another sample of how high the water comes. Debris caught right on the track - do not want to be walking when rain is heavy - leg breaking stuff

More tumbling waters

Bonnet orchid leaf - the only other sign of orchids

View from the high level walking bridge. Was not going to go across and over as I know I cannot cross at the old weir. Saving steps

Saw this one purple flower - just ending - no idea what it is

The flash of colour caught my eye and the mushroom was right there

Sign board for Bomaderry Creek Regional Park highlighting a few endangered species. One is found only here and where I live in the northern suburbs of Sydney. Seen it there but not here

Did the shopping on the way home

Made a sweet and sour pork dish for dinner using pork fillet. Recipes are all over the place - found one from Aussie chef Adam Liaw.

Marinate the pork with rice wine and say sauce - 10 minutes - dust with corn flour and then deep fry. I normally skip the flour

Chop up some veges - capsicum, onion, leek, carrot, garlic. The sauce is where recipes diverge - pineapple juice, white wine vinegar, tomato sauce, squeezed ginger, rice wine (had run out - used lemon myrtle gin), soy sauce, sugar, cornflour.

Saute the veges and then add the sauce

Just as the sauce thickens add in the reserved pork

Serve with rice

Worked well.

Busy night getting trades on after options expiry. Added a bunch of new Europe stocks and did all the covered calls - post coming out next week

The park is very beautiful and has many entertainment facilities. Good place to spend some quality time with family. Mushrooms are also there. At the end, he organized the food. At the end of the trip, you have to eat. Very good post

So beautiful post beautiful view of the weather photography and I love child photography 😊

Edit: Fixed spelling of Bomaderry - two R's
