New Tunes 19.4.2024

in Music β€’ 15 days ago

Hello music lovers! 🎢

With all the confusion, chaos, and commitments this week, I've once again managed to put together a selection of #newtunes, and fresh songs to listen to this weekend and beyond!
There are some well-known names, but even more young hopefuls who are straddling the glam pedestal and trying to rise to the top.
It's going to be tough, but let's be surprised.

Here are some suggestions if you have a few minutes to spare and no idea what to listen to over the weekend.
If you don't like something, you can skip it.

Fontaines D.C. - Starburster

Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C., who have been performing since 2014, have announced a new album called Romance, their fourth in a row, for August this year.
Starburster comes as the first example of the more experimental direction they are sailing in. The song, reportedly inspired by a panic attack suffered by the frontman at London's St Pancras station, features distinct hip-hop drums, his fast-paced vocal delivery, and a change of tone mid-song. Enough intriguing content to keep anyone interested...

🎡 🎧 🎡

SPRINTS - HEAVY

Sprints are a garage-rock/post-punk quartet from Dublin (Ireland again :)), a new band for me, and, from their debut album Letter To Self, this song is Heavy. They released two EPs last year before the album. The cacophonous sound conveys what it feels like to be paralyzed by anxiety, combining intrusive thoughts and panic and evoking anxiety. I'll be following them because I'm interested to see if they can hold on and keep going.
The sound and the production are quite good.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Hozier - Too Sweet

Another Irish band. Believe me, it's coincidental, depending mostly on what I'm listening to. The song is from their latest EP Unheard, and when you hear it it's clear it's going to be a big hit, if it isn't already. Poetry is packaged in top-notch pop rock, at least as far as I'm concerned.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Dead Pony - RAINBOWS

Dead Pony is a Scottish band from Glasgow, who make no secret of the fact that their influences are QOTSA, NiN, and the like. Their debut album Rainbow was released two weeks ago. Of course, there are plenty of new bands with this kind of direction, but Dead Pony is special, if only because of the great frontwoman Anne Shield, who, when her time comes, will be on the cover of major newspapers. They have a big label behind them, so it will be easier for them to move up.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Full Flower Moon Band - Illegal Things

Full Flower Moon Band is an Australian band from Brisbane. New to me. The song Illegal Things is the introduction to the new, second album in the series, Diesel Things.
From everything I've listened to, they're always somewhere on the border, navigating between underground, hard rock and psychedelia, doing exactly what they sing, which can sometimes even be fatal. Or not, if it's tightly controlled. We'll see where they go from here.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Alfie Templeman - Radiosoul

Alfie Tempelman is a young English artist who has been active since 2017 when he released his first album at the age of 14. Radiosoul will be his second when it is released in June this year.
His songs tend towards lyrical confessions with a dash of soul, acid jazz, and pop, which doesn't go unnoticed.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Lufthansa - ΠšΡƒΠ»Π°

Lufthansa is a young group from Skopje, North Macedonia. They have been around for three years and have released their second album, Daleku od vistinskoto neΕ‘to (in English Far from the Truth).
The poetic lyrics deliver abstract and dreamlike images, while the other instruments add sonic variety. The song Kula, or Tower in English, does not deviate from this, but it's distinctly rhythmic and guitar-oriented.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Elbow - Balu

Elbow is an English rock band formed in 1997, since which time they have released ten studio albums, and have accumulated a whole host of music awards for their work.
The song Balu is from their latest album Audio Vertigo which was released in March this year. Vocalist and frontman Guy Garvey sings over an infectious groove and triumphant brass, while the rest of the band creates a tight and explosive soundscape.

🎢That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend and holidays with new songs!

Before it's of no interest to anyone at all, a few quick thoughts on your new releases.
Fontaines DC - I could see Don Quixote set in modern times having similar consequences. Very fascinating and leaves me wanting more ...
Sprints - Perhaps even post-grunge from Irland? Deserves full attention in any case.
Full Flower Moon Band - Patti Smith after her makeover? Both thumbs up!
Lufthansa - Does anyone remember where to look for the Haustor? I'll be searching for more tracks tomorrow. I am curious.

You know, I didn't think of the comparison with Patty Smith. Thanks for this, could be true :)
You can find Haustor here but I don't think Lufthansa is in that rank...

The sprints - heavy sound makes sense. I love the intro to the song…

I listened to some of your featured songs. Hozier got me so curious. I like it. You have a pretty choice of songs. I'll have time to listen to your other choices. Thanks for sharing.
