Faro is my second city. I have family members who live there. Located in the southernmost territory of mainland Portugal, this sun-filled city is part of the Algarve where there are excellent beaches. I highlight Ilha da Barreta, better known as Ilha Deserta, located at the entrance to Barra Nova (Barra Faro - Olhão).
This island has only one restaurant and a fishermen's house, it is not inhabited and is rarely visited by tourists.
It is the ideal place for silence, for rest, for introspection and contemplation of nature - where everything fits perfectly: the land, the sea and the air. The sand feeds several species of molluscs, clams, shells and whelks. The dunes keep their vegetation preserved and the fauna is also protected, you can observe chiretes, swallows, terns and plovers.
Access to the island is only possible by boat from Cais da Porta Nova (Faro). There are hourly crossings throughout the year, either by ferry (10 € return trip. Duration: 40 minutes) or by speed boats (20 € return trip. Duration: 15 minutes).
It's my favorite place. Every year, in September and December, I contemplate its beauty and peace. I have lots of photos of this place, I will soon publish more.

O acesso à ilha só é possível por barco a partir do Cais da Porta Nova (Faro). Durante todo o ano há travessias hora a hora, ou por ferry-boat (10 € Ida e volta. Duração: 40 minutos) ou por lanchas rápidas (20 € Ida e volta. Duração: 15 minutos).
