Landscape photography with an iPhone

in Photography Lovers7 months ago (edited)

I just watched a documentary about the development of the smartphone. Normally I hate made up words like "smartphone" as it really doesn't appear to be smart. But watching a programme about the tech behind the screen gave me a greater appreciation of the thing that cost me a fortune and sits in my pocket.

I regularly walk out and about in my local woods with the idea of making a record shot so I can return with my "proper" camera. With the processing technology in my iPhone, I'm beginning to wonder why I need to bother.

This is a post of landscape based images shot with an iPhone. I've had many versions of the iPhone over the years and occassionally get tempted by the dark side that is Android only to be roped back in to iOS.

Clumber Lake is a sight for sore eyes. And legs

I've been on a keep fit spree and to get this point is quite a long way from my parked car. The reward at the end of a long walk is this view looking over Clumber Lake in Nottinghamshire. The only downside to this image for me is the long walk back!!

Flamborough Head

This is straight of the iPhone. I was astonished with the result and the in-camera computing that went in to this image. All I did was to transfer the file to my PC and post it here. I'm still amazed.

The View From the Dam

That's dam not damn. One thing I certainly can't do with my "proper" camera is shoot an in-camera panorama. To achieve this with a proper camera, I'd have to lug a tripod and lots of other gear and spend a bit of time processing. With the iPhone, it's a quick sweep across the scene and seconds later this is the result! Damn not dam!!

The View From Lincoln Castle

I often find that my iPhone over-exposes a little especially when shooting a panorama. I still feel the need to edit the images from the phone although sharpening isn't necessary.

The Ancient Parts of Sherwood Forest

I have no idea how old this tree is but I'm willing to bet it's at least 400 years old. Its in it's final sad phase but still looks amazing.

Misty Rays in a Morning

On my morning walks I hope for mist. I really should take my proper camera but I look out of my window and see there's no chance of mist only to find as I arrive in the woods, the mist has rolled in!

Forest Pano

In collating images for this post, I noticed I quite like a pano shot. This is basically what I see on my morning walk! (When it's not raining that is!)

Lean

I have a collection of random images on my iPhone which don't particularly relate to any other but are just random observations of stuff I've seen. This tree on a photo recce was perilously close to falling over! The phone is level, the tree most definitely isn't!

London Cityscape

Another image where the iPhone has over-exposed by one stop. It could be that I'm pressing the wrong buttons somewhere on the iPhone but it's easy enough to recover things in post.

Catching the light

I figure I must be lazy in not wanting to lug big and heavy camera gear miles and miles on foot. This is literally 100 metres away from my car in Sherwood Forest. With the right conditions and time of day these rays still impress me a lot!

This is straight outta the iPhone.

Behind ze scenes

These expensive little gadgets are great for recording behind the scenes images. I have been a little obsessed with this tree lately!

which iphone are you using? i think from iphone 11pro on camera quality has improved significantly

That is why it is often said that it is not the equipment but the person who uses it and here you can see it with these beautiful pictures, beautiful work!

This pictures are completely gorgeous! You capture some great images, Misty Rays in a Morning was my favorite.
