A few days ago I had photographed the coins I found by chance with the 100 mm macro lens. You can find the article here.

Vor einigen Tagen hatte ich die Münzen, die ich zufällig fand, mit dem 100 mm Makro-Objektiv fotografiert. Den Beitrag findest Du hier.

For the pictures in this article, I rotated the camera around the optical axis. I placed the coins and illuminated them with different torches. I used an Emisar D4K with a small beauty dish that I printed on the 3D printer. The beauty dish made it possible to minimise the reflections on the shiny coins. I also used several Convoy S2+ with coloured LEDs, a Ruys Lightpainter torch and a small Tool AA from Lumintop.

Für die Bilder in diesem Beitrag habe ich die Kamera um die optische Achse gedreht. Ich platzierte die Münzen und beleuchtete sie mit verschiedenen Taschenlampen. Ich benutzte eine Emisar D4K mit einem kleinen Beauty Dish, den ich auf dem 3D Drucker gedruckt habe. Durch den Beauty Dish war es möglich die Reflektionen auf den glänzenden Münzen zu minimieren. Darüber hinaus benutzte ich mehrere Convoy S2+ mit farbigen LEDs, eine Ruys Lightpainter Taschenlampe und eine kleine Tool AA von Lumintop.

I had attached the Nikkor 17-35/2.8 to the camera. I wouldn't have needed a zoom lens for the pictures, but the Nikkor has a very low close-up limit of 28 cm. This is very advantageous if you want to photograph small things. With my fixed focal lengths of 35 to 50 mm, I would have had to increase the distance between the coins and the camera. Everything would have been smaller and therefore no longer filled the format. Of course, I could have cropped the images on the computer, but I always prefer to have the finished image on the memory card after closing the shutter.

Ich hatte das Nikkor 17-35/2,8 an die Kamera gesteckt. Für die Bilder hätte ich kein Zoomobjektiv gebraucht, aber das Nikkor hat eine sehr geringe Nahstellgrenze von 28 cm. Das ist sehr vorteilhaft, wenn man kleine Dinge fotografieren will. Mit meinen Festbrennweiten mit 35 bis 50 mm hätte ich den Abstand zwischen den Münzen und Kamera vergrößern müssen. Alles wäre kleiner, und somit nicht mehr formatfüllend dargestellt worden. Ich hätte die Bilder natürlich am Computer schneiden können, aber ich habe immer lieber das fertige Bild nach dem Schließen des Verschlusses auf der Speicherkarte.

Illuminating the coins was no easy task. Parts of the coins were quickly burnt out due to reflections. I needed to take a break again and again to avoid going mad. But on the other hand, the satisfaction is great when the crazy plan works after all. With large scenes, errors in the lighting don't become clearly visible so quickly, but when lighting very small things, especially if they are still shiny, the picture is immediately completely ruined if the angle, distance and time of the light source are not exactly right. And if you then rotate the camera and have to light the scene several times, the whole thing doesn't get any easier. So this is not necessarily recommended for copying.

Die Ausleuchtung der Münzen war keine einfache Übung. Schnell waren Teile der Münzen durch Reflektionen ausgebrannt. Immer wieder brauchte ich eine Pause um nicht wahnsinnig zu werden. Aber andererseits ist die Befriedigung sehr groß, wenn der verrückte Plan dann doch funktioniert. Bei großen Szenen werden Fehler bei der Ausleuchtung nicht so schnell deutlich sichtbar, bei der Beleuchtung sehr kleiner Dinge, gerade wenn sie dann noch glänzend sind, ist das Bild sofort komplett versaut wenn Winkel, Abstand und Zeit der Lichtquelle nicht exakt stimmen. Und wenn man dann noch die Kamera rotiert, die Szene also mehrfach beleuchten muss wird das Ganze nicht einfacher. Zum Nachmachen ist das also nicht unbedingt empfohlen.

As I have somehow not yet finished with this topic, I will continue to experiment. Most likely with some vintage lenses from the Soviet Union. Until then, good light at all times.

Da ich mit diesem Thema irgendwie noch nicht abgeschlossen habe, werde ich noch weiter experimentieren. Höchstwahrscheinlich mit einigen alten Objektiven aus der Sowjetunion. Bis dahin allzeit gutes Licht.

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.

Guten Morgen, so kann der Montag gerne immer starten, mit schöner Lichtkunst.
Mir gefällt das Titelbild und das Bild wo die Münzen schön rötlich glühen, am meisten.

Interessant finde ich auch die "Gitterstruktur" im Hintergrund. Erst dachte ich an eine Tastatur oder ähnliches, muss aber was anderes sein. 🤔
