Cuban Vintage Cars

Nice cars in the streets of Cuba

In the last few years my wife and I did some travelling about Cuba. Because of the United States Embargo against the Caribbean island there are still a lot of vintage cars in the streets. Look and enjoy.

Would love to travel Cuba one day for the cars and salsa :)

Great pics.

The salsa might disappoint but the cars won’t.

Really?

Yeah that's what I have heard is that the salsa is lacking. That's according to an old Cuban friend of mine. Course he could be tainted by the glory of Texas salsa

I have heard that a lot from the US end up dancing NY or LA styles. In Finland, most dance Cuban style :)

I really wouldn’t know the difference from any of those dancing styles. I have 2 left feet.

Thank's to all. You have to hurry a little bit: Last time (2020) I found a lot of new chinese cars. But there are still many old cars and I think the cubans love their vintage cars too, often restored with a lot of care . Salsa is another interesting topic, but so hard to take photos.

Those old cars are such a delight to see still on the roads, yes built to last something we no longer have.

We had a baby blue Dodge 1955 was like sailing down the roads, great memories!

Oh I do like those taxis they look super for buzzing around a city in to do a tour or shopping @mapetoke

@tipu curate

In Germany we still haver some vintage cars, called »oldtimer«. At times drivers meet somewhere and you can admire the cars, but it is like a museum, in Cuba it is like real life.

Amazing the ingenuity of man. Even when the government can’t provide, man will find a way.

Yes, they are really good in maintaining and repairing their cars. They often use parts of old Soviet vehicles. And more: Some cars even have air condition.

Wow! Still always amazed.

Greetings Martin,

One of our supporters and his wife also toured Cuba and had great stories to tell about it.
Your post certainly took me down the road to the past, as when I was a kid all of those cars were still on the road in 50s and early 60s here in South Africa.

We still have many of them cruising around the roads here as there are some old car collectors.

A great post my friend.

Thank you very much. For me hive is something new and it is exciting to receive answers from South Africa. I would like to travel to South Arfrica one day and not only because of the cars.

Well it was a good post and I liked it because of the memories.
On Hive you will receive comments from all over the world.
You will be welcomed in South Africa.

I was ever wondering why 60x design looks so much better than modern. And I'm not old to like it because I was born at that time.

Well, I am wondering too. Perhaps form was more important than function, but may be this will only be the case only with regard to cars.
