The Germans do like a festival. I went to the one in Freiburg when I lived there and it was huge. They were into dressing as witches and strange creatures. It was all quite pagan for such a Catholic region I thought. We have some similar things in the UK too. Some people keep the old traditions alive.

Carnival is a big thing here in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Aachen. People work hard to party even harder ;-)
