It was quite an interesting afternoon. I met with [at ]silvercrown during our usual wfc and attempted being productive. In between our coffee and random talks, the topic of crypto lord in Indonesia became our topic. The person is young, around 23 and is very influential but guess what, he endorses the thing that I listened from 2017-ish and basically a translation of Andrew tate’s teaching. For someone who was once following Andrew Tate before he got famous and has cult-like followers like today, that guy sounded like a broken record to me. It was all too familiar and hence why despite knowing the existence of the guy, I shrugged it off.
Welcome to my brain dump, it’s morning and when I am able to sit down, sipping a cup of coffee while contemplating about life and emptying it out a little.
“ What color is your lambo?” became the catchy phrase thrown around but it was the translation version of it. A lot of its subscribers are young folks who are possibly too young to invest in crypto, or perhaps, they are trust fund babies, so losing a couple milli wouldn’t be net negative.
Well, beats me ... but this person/crypto influencer became very prominent in the country. It’s definitely interesting to see the shift that it’s all now just a regular afternoon topic. In the past, crypto was a hush hush magic money internet, dark web currency and terrorism enabler. But now, from retail to institutions, are flocking to the crypto scene and we shrugged off that darker past.
I told my friend how things were back in the day. At least, I believe some of us really enjoy the freedom it promises and the way to get out of the current system. But now, it’s all massive chaos where the system infiltrates and we are all somehow KYC-ed and taxed even.
Somehow our conversation ended up drifting apart to a how-to like approach to getting rich. My friend told me about selling things from China that gets one of his neighbors quite wealthy.
If you’re an e-commerce follower from back in the day, you might know terms like ecom guy or dropshipping. But these days, instead of dropshipping without actually having the item, we can have the item by buying it from alibaba. We did some calculation and the profit is pretty lucrative. Steal this idea but it was interesting how with just starting capital of $2000 it could triple the amount.
I guess I am tired with the e-commerce scene and such but in Indonesia, it’s a thriving scene. With more internet adoption, accessibility to online services, and younger productive folks with money, it only makes sense selling something from some warehouse in Shenzhen is a gateway to financial freedom. There are new things and this experience is also new which makes the whole experience exciting.
Even these days websites that sell direct products are only becoming a thing. In the past,the Indonesian web was riddled with sketchy websites and unusable sites without much information. But these days, the internet content has improved. The only thing that hasn’t is how slow trends are catching up in the country.
My friend is definitely an interesting person to hangout with. I am much less aware of Indonesian business trends but whenever I look at it, it just looks like 10 years behind the trends that I know. I think if you’re from SEA countries, following the trends of the US, Korea, and China and being early to translate them into the local market can be your gateway to rags to riches story.

Things are definitely changing with digital currencies and assets. I just hope that we can fend off the managerial class and their obsession of getting involved to make absurd rules on a whim. We need to keep t decentralized as much as possible!
It's probably gonna be challenging down the line.
