We have had a new member at home for almost 6 months, his name is Kakaroto and we call him "gordo". My experience being a mom of this pet has been totally different from the other dogs. I can say that we have gone through many ups and downs, usually his adaptation process in the first 5 months has been the most difficult. I had to learn about his feeding and care, approximately every week we would visit the vet, either for allergies or stomach infections. Here is a picture of her eyes swelling up.
Tenemos un nuevo integrante en casa desde hace casi 6 meses, su nombre es Kakaroto y de cariño le llamamos “gordo”. Mi experiencia siendo mamá de esta mascota ha sido totalmente diferente a los otros perros. Puedo decir que hemos pasado por muchos altibajos, por lo general su proceso de adaptación en los primeros 5 meses ha sido lo más difícil. Tuve que aprender sobre su alimentación y cuidados, aproximadamente cada semana íbamos a visitar al veterinario, ya sea por alergias o infecciones estomacales. While Kakaroto was growing there is a value that was necessary to develop and that is patience, patience to clean approximately 10 to 15 times a day his excrement and urine, I felt that I had a newborn at home, for all the attention and time that it demanded to have him in a small space like my apartment. Another problem was his feeding. The truth is that this type of breed believes that their master has endless food, no portion is enough, they always want more. Since he has a large jaw and small protruding teeth, he does not chew the food, he only swallows at an incredible speed, so he started to suffer from gas when he was a little boy, causing stomach problems.
Mientras Kakaroto crecía hay un valor que era necesario desarrollar y es la paciencia, paciencia para limpiar aproximadamente de 10 a 15 veces al día su excremento y orina, sentía que tenía a un recién nacido en casa, por toda la atención y tiempo que demandaba al tenerlo en un espacio pequeño como mi departamento. Otro de los problemas fue su alimentación. Lo cierto es que este tipo de raza cree que su amo tiene comida interminable, ninguna porción es suficiente, siempre quieren más. Al tener una mandíbula grande y dientes pequeños sobresalidos, no mastica la comida, solamente tragaba a una velocidad increíble, por lo que de pequeño empezó a sufrir de gases, ocasionando problemas estomacales.
So, as a workaround, the vet recommended a type of dish for fast eating dogs. Unfortunately, I can't share with you a picture of the dish, as my beautiful dog took it upon himself to shred it to pieces, he completely destroyed it, at least it lasted him a month. I have heard from other owners that this breed is very laid back; in my case, it is quite the opposite. From a young age he had energy to go up and down stairs, to bite anything that came his way. This situation, as he grew up, became an inconvenience, since it was easier for him to reach things in his place, so he stopped chewing shoes and started chewing TV controls, glasses, in short, he damaged many things, so it was necessary to find a new space for Kakaroto.
Así que, como método de solución, el veterinario recomendó un tipo de plato para perros que comen rápido. Lamentablemente, no les puedo compartir una fotografía del plato, ya que mi hermoso perro se encargó de hacer trizas, lo destruyó por completo, al menos le duró un mes. He escuchado por otros dueños que esta raza es muy relajada; en mi caso, es todo lo contrario. Desde pequeño tenía energía para subir y bajar gradas, para morder todo lo que se le atravesara. Esta situación, a medida que crecía, se convirtió en un inconveniente, puesto que le era más fácil alcanzar las cosas de su sitio, por lo que dejó de morder zapatos y pasó a morder controles de televisión, lentes, en fin dañó muchas cosas, por lo que fue necesario buscar un nuevo espacio para Kakaroto.
There were two options at the time: the first was to send him to my in-laws' house and the second was to move to a new house where he could be in a yard. We chose the second option and found a new home. Kakaroto slept and spent most of his time in a backyard. The care time he demanded decreased, although my pet felt we got rid of him. The fact that he was not indoors made us all sad, as he was still small, especially since we live in a very cold city that usually reaches a temperature of 1° Celsius at night.
Había dos opciones en su momento: la primera era enviarle a casa de mis suegros y la segunda mudarnos a una nueva casa donde pueda estar en un patio. Elegimos la segunda opción y encontramos un nuevo hogar. Kakaroto dormía y pasaba la mayor parte del tiempo en un patio trasero. El tiempo de cuidado que demandaba disminuyó, aunque mi mascota sintió que nos deshicimos de él. El hecho de que no estuviera dentro de casa nos causaba tristeza a todos, ya que aún era pequeño, más que todo porque vivimos en una ciudad muy fría que, por lo general, en las noches suele llegar a una temperatura de 1° grado Celsius.
This process was sad, but now I understand that it was necessary. We have been in the new house for 3 months and the situation is different. Kakaroto has been maturing, he has become a very intelligent and educated dog, without harming his energy level. Now again he spends the day indoors and at night he sleeps outside with total tranquility. Best of all, he has learned to relieve himself only in the backyard and has stopped chewing everything in front of him; however, he still destroys his toys and the dishes of the other pets in the house.
Este proceso fue triste, pero ahora entiendo que era necesario. Llevamos 3 meses en la nueva casa y la situación es diferente. Kakaroto ha ido madurando, se ha convertido en un perro muy inteligente y educado, sin perjudicar su nivel de energía. Ahora nuevamente en el día pasa dentro de casa y por las noches duerme afuera con total tranquilidad. Lo mejor de todo es que aprendió a hacer sus necesidades únicamente en el patio trasero y además dejó de morder todo lo que tuviera en frente; sin embargo, todavía se encarga de destruir sus juguetes y los platos de las demás mascotas de la casa.
It makes me happy for all these advances, I no longer have to watch him for mischief or his needs, I think this is what every owner aspires to, to have a healthy coexistence with the pet while he stays by our side. At the beginning I thought we could never reach this level of tranquility, I even cried with impotence, no matter how hard I tried to teach him, he showed no signs of progress.
Everything is different, he knows me and is constantly affectionate; in return, I prepare him chicken soups with rice and mix it with his pepas, this has reduced the problem that he does not digest food well and as a consequence he no longer has gas. Our process is on the rise, and we will see where destiny takes us.
Me hace feliz por todos estos avances, ya no tengo que vigilarlo por si hace alguna travesura o de sus necesidades, esto creo que es a lo que aspira todo dueño, tener una convivencia sana con la mascota mientras permanece a nuestro lado. Al inicio pensé que nunca podríamos llegar a este nivel de tranquilidad, incluso llegué a llorar de impotencia, no importaba cuánto me esforzara por enseñarle, no daba señales de avance.
Todo es distinto, él me conoce y se muestra cariñoso constantemente; a cambio, le preparo sopas de pollo con arroz y le mezclo con sus pepas, esto ha disminuido el problema de que no digiere bien la comida y como consecuencia ya no tiene gases. Nuestro proceso va en ascenso, y veremos por donde nos lleva el destino.

Those 6 months have been quite an adventure, but I imagine that despite the not so good moments, the love you have felt from Kakaroto has allowed everything to be better. I have heard from people who have dogs of the same breed and they say that it requires special care, but that the tenderness of these dogs compensates all the effort. Yes he is very affectionate, especially when he wants food jjj and sometimes the trick works, but well I learned that being a mom of a dog of this breed does require dedication and being small he needs his owner, I hope that with time he will be more independent like the other pets, I will give my best.
