I am Marnu, writing to you from Argentina, I am a gamer and Vimm streamer. I wanted to introduce you to one of the members of my family, Tiger, aka Ty.

Soy Marnu, escribiéndoles desde Argentina, soy gamer y streamer de Vimm. Quería presentarles a uno de los integrantes de mi familia, Tiger alias Ty.

Ty has been living with me since he was a baby, after an accident that left him paralyzed (a story I will tell at some point in another post).

Ty vive conmigo desde bebe, luego de que un accidente que lo dejó paralítico (historia que contaré en algún momento en otro post)

His condition is inoperable, so he required physiotherapy and we tried spinal cord walking, but it didn't work in his case. This means that Ty drags his hind legs to move (that's why I protect them from injuries and bites). When he goes out, he uses a cart to move around, but he cannot use it inside the house because he hits everything and gets stuck.

Su condición es inoperable, por lo que requirió kinesiología e intentamos la marcha medular pero en su caso no funcionó, eso implica que Ty arrastre las patas traseras para moverse (por eso se las protejo de lesiones y mordeduras propias). Al salir, utiliza un carro para trasladarse pero dentro de la casa no puede porque se golpea con todo y se atora.

After 10 years of care, I learned several things about his needs because there is very little information available, especially when it comes to a large paralyzed dog:

How to adapt adult human diapers for a large dog
Treat wounds from his own bites due to feeling his hind legs as something strange, friction, and pressure that builds up (using hipoglós, pasta lassar, sugar)
Adapt jeans pants to protect his hind legs from those mentioned bites. They must be made of jeans because the fabric is more resistant, the rest will tear or rip.
Cover his hind legs with diapers to protect him from what comes out of the diaper and keep him cushioned to prevent injuries since his skin became thin from the biting.
I use gauze, tape, and various items to treat his bedsores.
Good nutrition is important to prevent diarrhea, which increases irritation and injury.
Greyhounds get cold ears, so it is important to keep them warm, especially in winter, that's why he wears clothes xD
He has high spikes of energy for short periods. Then, he sleeps a lot. A lot.
The cart that Ty has was a donation from another large paralyzed dog that passed away. The truth is that it is very difficult to find carts that are really functional for paralyzed dogs of his size. The ideal is to adapt it to his body like a prosthesis.

Luego de 10 años de cuidado, aprendí varias cosas con respecto a sus necesidades ya que hay muy poca información disponible, especialmente cuando se trata de un perro grande paralítico:

Cómo adaptar pañales de humanos adultos para un perro grande
Curar heridas por sus propias mordeduras de sentir sus patas como algo extraño, fricción y presión que se van generando (utilizar hipoglós, pasta lassar, azúcar)
Adaptar pantalones de jean para protegerle las patas de esas mordeduras mencionadas. Deben ser de jean ya que la tela es más resistente, el resto se rompe o lo raja.
Cubrirle las patas traseras con pañales para protegerlo de lo que salga del pañal y mantenerlo acolchado para evitar lesiones ya que su piel por las mordeduras del comienzo quedo finita.
Utilizo gasas, cintas, elementos varios para curarle las escaras.
Es importante una buena alimentación para que no tenga diarrea, que aumenta la irritación y lesión.
Los galgos tienen fríos en las orejas, es importante tenerlas abrigadas especialmente en invierno por eso usa ropa xD
Tiene picos altos de energía por períodos cortos. Luego, duerme muchas horas. Muchas.
El carro que tiene Ty fue una donación de otro perro grande paralítico que falleció. Lo cierto es que es muy dificil conseguir carros que sean realmente funcionales para perros paralíticos de su tamaño el ideal es que se adapten al cuarpo como una protesis.*

Lo cierto es que la razón principal por la que hay poca información sobre perros grandes en su situación es porque suelen ser "sacrificados", pensando que su cuidado es dificil,costoso o van a tener una mala vida...

Ty is a very happy dog with his human and canine family (he has a feline one, but unfortunately he doesn't like them much). He likes to dig holes in the garden to lay on the cool earth, greet all the people in the park when he goes for a walk, give rare but precious kisses, and easily gets scared and distracted by anything (like Santa's little helper lol). He is extremely friendly.

I love all my canine and feline family, he is one of the ones who has all my love and tenderness, and he teaches me a lot every day. I am very happy to be able to share our story in the community and that you can also get to know him.

Ty es un perro muy feliz con su familia humana y canina (tiene felina pero desgraciadamente no le gustan tanto), le gusta hacer pozos en el jardín para acostarse sobre la tierra fría, saludar a todas las personas en la plaza cuando sale a pasear, da escasos besos y por eso valiosos, se asusta y distrae fácilmente con cualquier cosa (como ayudante de santa lol ) y es sumamente amigable.

Amo a toda mi familia canina y felina, él es uno de los que tiene todo mi amor y ternura y me enseña mucho día a día. Estoy muy contenta de poder compartir nuestra historia en la comunidad y que ustedes también puedan conocerlo.
