Dear educators and parents, I hope you are having a wonderful week. In today's post I want to share with you some didactic resources that I use in my English classes and that are really useful for children to learn vocabulary.
My contribution this time are some didactic resources that can be very useful for children to learn new vocabulary in the English language.
This time the topic to work on is the seasons of the year and the weather. The activities that I present below are only a guide that can be adapted to the needs of each student.
Luego les muestro la ficha de vocabulario y les presento las palabras nuevas referentes al tema. Hacemos el ejercicio de pronunciación llamado "Listen and repeat" en el cual ellos prestan atención a la pronunciación correcta de cada palabra y luego la repiten hasta lograr la correcta pronunciación.
I always start my classes by inquiring a little about the prior knowledge that each student has regarding the topic. To do this, I ask them questions related to their personal experience. In this case I ask you to tell me what your favorite sports activity is and how often you practice it.
Then I show them the vocabulary sheet and introduce them to the new words related to the topic. We do the pronunciation exercise called "Listen and repeat" in which they pay attention to the correct pronunciation of each word and then repeat it until they achieve the correct pronunciation.
In the next activity I show them the flash cards and ask them to tell me the correct word for each image they see. In this step, children can evaluate how much they remember of what they just learned with the vocabulary sheet. These flash cards also allow us to do different activities and games that are aimed at helping children associate and memorize vocabulary.
There are several platforms on the web that help us practice and reinforce pronunciation. One of the ones I use the most is YouTube, where you can find children's songs adapted to each particular topic. Another platform that I really like to exercise listening comprehension is Liveworksheets, since it presents exercises that combine pronunciation, comprehension and semantic relationship.
With the purpose of putting into practice what the children have learned during the development of the class, the next thing we do are the interactive activities of the Educaplay platform and the Wordwall platform. These two platforms are the ones I use the most, since they allow me to create personalized activities with the topics we are working on at that moment. These activities are very dynamic and children really love them.
Once the children carry out the interactive activities, we make a brief summary of what has been studied and end the class session. If necessary, the topic is reinforced in the next session and new words are added. Two topics can also be merged that are similar and review all the vocabulary.
