I reward commenters with upvotes, do you?

in #hive2 months ago

Hi!

Have you noticed a drop in comments, and/or quality of comments on Hive?

There seem to be a lot of posts on Hive, but not very much engagement. What could be causing the problem?

I think we, the creators, need to up our game and start engaging more with content on Hive. Here's my plan:

Starting now, I'm going through the latest content on Hive, reading the comments, upvoting, and replying when appropriate. I want to see a positive change, so I'm going to lead by example. I'll continue rewarding genuine engagement with upvotes, not just in my own blog, but on other posts and comments across Hive.

Now, the question remains: What are you going to do?

Sort:

Yes, I upvote comments on my posts. It is the main interaction I have here so to me it is a good way to use my voting power.

Upvoting the comments under one's own posts is good, but I think it's even better to consider voting comments everywhere, to make commenting even more appealing. 😊

I do when I have the time for it :)

I admit that I've lost the habit of commenting. I used to do it more often but maybe it was because I generally didn't have much time to read so many posts, which is a mistake because how can I expect my own posts to be read if I don't take the time to do the same for other people?

Absolutely! I think I may have originally fallen into the same trap. It's so easy to write a post, then just passively wait for the commenters to come, when the right thing to do might be to be active and engage elsewhere to find other like-minded people.

I mean it may require some work, but in the end it pays off for everyone.

!WINE

Good way to get our attention! Haha cheers broski.

Truly we need to engage in each other's posts, when I joined Hive I always engaged but I'm now slacking due to work. I hope I'll bounce back when I have the time.

It is always nice to bounce back! :)

Sure...I am always an advocate of engagement, organic engagement, and productive engagement....

social behavior could be complex so as engagement. The problem with blog post is that it is shaped by number of upvotes not by views or actual readers.....so people at large are motivated to post something that could earn something for them..and not interested in writing something that could drive engagement, in the first place incentive is the determinant....u can say that is one draw back of web 3.0....or put another way, you can say it needs a more comprehensive reward algorithm.

You may be right about having a better reward algorithms, although I have to say that what we have is ultimately better than the ones on Web 2.0. At least we are able to directly reward a comment or a post by voting it, or giving tips by using the various bots.

I figure it all counts as engagement, but I still think commenting is always more efficient, even when you don't have voting power or tokens for bots. However, if I can help people make their minds on whether to write and engage by rewarding, I might as well do so. 😀

!WINE

I do agree with you....whatever we have and wherever we are right now...we should push for more engagement, that will keep on weaving the social network....and ultimately create that network effect.

Definitely!

Yes, when they are worht at least something. I don't upvote the generic ones and those that clearly show the person did not even read the post.

Yes I agree. Sometimes I see comments like that. It's not nice, but I don't really care that much, nor do I care enough to reward such comments.

It's much nicer to have a discussion than a back patting contest, right? 😆

!BEER

That's for sure :)

Hey @godfish, here is a little bit of BEER from @gamer00 for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

Engagement is very much important on hive and that's worth keep the platform growing.

Yes I think so too. Thanks for doing your part! 🙂

I'm definitely an advocate for engagement, and I do tend to reward worthy comments. Of course, this approach only works if you have enough HP to give about a 0.03 upvote or greater, so it doesn't just become "dust.. "

I agree, but even the smaller upvotes carry a weight. I mean it's not merely a monetary gain that you gain from upvotes, but it also helps with your reputation. Small streams make big rivers.

There's something one can do about the "dust" though; A delegation to @dustbunny has been a great help during the past years, as it can give a small upvote to those comments below the treshold, so that the "dust" turns into something tangible.

!PIZZA

Gonna research about dustbunny. I only know dustsweeper

You are talking of upvotes? Some don't even reply comments.

Yes, comments. I can't upvote upvotes, but if someone does comment I can upvote that. So, to encourage commenting, I can upvote the comments thus making writing comments more appealing. :) Thanks for the comment!

Here, have a slice of !PIZZA

It is nice when we receive a good comment that tells us if our content was understood and liked by the reader or we simply need to correct a point, we are always learning. A hug

Es agradable cuando recibimos un buen comentario que nos indica si nuestro contenido fue entendido y fue del agrado del lector o simplemente debemos corregir algún punto, siempre estamos aprendiendo. Un abrazo

I hoping to be part of your plan. Hehehe @gamer00 Have a nice day.

Thank you, I hope so too. 😍

I'm looking forward for it, visiting my blog too. 😊 @gamer00

Thank you for the supports. You didn't fail me. 😊 You stand your words. 😊 I appreciated it much. @gamer00

No, but I visit their blog and upvote the latest post when I like it.

Thanks for the honest input! I guess it's one way to go about it. Although I don't know whether it will help in creating more engagement in the form of comments, unless you also comment on their blog. 😊

Here's a slice of !PIZZA, as an appreciation!

Great plan @gamer00 and I hope the trend catches. I'm not on Hive often other than to curate posts that catch my eye and upvote quality content. Cheers!

I've also been on and off Hive for quite a while, and I've not had much motivation to write anything. Eventually it just happened again, and I found myself writing a few posts. I wonder how long it will last this time. 😅

!WINE

Dear @gamer00, you just got hugged.
I sent 1.0 HUG on behalf of @ninahaskin.

I wish I have more HP so I can reach at least 0.02 and get away from being dust. I am now working on increasing my stake, grow my account, and increase my vote value. I love the concept and we appreciate your project!

Your project might be the stepping stone of people to keep engaged in the community. Keep it up!

yo te apoyo tu iniciativa yes yes

I am mainly upvoting commentors of my own articles, but good comments in other peoples articles as well. Comments are often the salt in the soup here on hive.

I always prefer my comments and Upvote all of them
