CHAPTER 6
What happened was a very bad incident. A snake strikes and bite my father on his left leg as he screams out for help. Been a little I did not know what to do, I rushed out to go to the next farm land to see if any one could help. We were fortunate to find a friend of his who came down to the farm with me.

My father was helpless on the floor, the man tore my fathers shirt and he tied some part of my father’s leg to prevent the poison from the snake spreading round his body. Our farm had no motor way and if there was, there is definitely no car to help take my father to the hospital, the only option we had was a wheel barrow... we had to use this to transport him back home. It was a nasty experience.

As we got home, my father was taken to AUQA, he was a native doctor, his specialisms was sucking out snake poison from human body. He could treat people of any kind of poisoning ranging from food to animals and to plants. I watch and observed as he did this passionately. My father was already suffering from high fever, he was so hot that his body cook cook a pot of rice. I cried as I watch my father in pains and I could not do anything. My mother and Aunty were doing all they could to make sure he was fine.

Three weeks after. My father got better, though in my village there is a believe that if you got beaten by a snake and you managed to survive, you need to provide a sacrifice to appreciate the gods and put yourself on self isolation which my father did obediently. Thank God this period I did not have to go to farm as my father was in self isolation.

The relationship between me and and my Aunty got stronger, she told me so many stories and thought me how to do so many things, we got so close to each during the period of isolation, her tummy was expanding as it was meant to be for every pregnant lady. Our was was happy again, though things were a bit difficult because my dad had not been going to farm and no farm means no money and no money means no food and no food means hunger.

The period of self isolation was over and my dad was ready to start going back to farm. The bond between my Aunty and I was so strong that w are bonded more than even with my mum. She told me to look for a name for the child. My father invited the soothsayer to come and predict the future of the featus.

“It is a male child, his energy is driving from the west and he his destined to shine round the world. He would be very strong and powerful but... darkness looms.” Said the soothsayer
Darkness looms could mean anything but my father was so happy about the future of the unborn child ignoring the part that said darkness looms. We celebrated that night as my father drank a bottle of palm wine with groundnuts. I decided of a name to give the child and I told her I would name him Uchechukwu.

What is meant by darkness looms, I was so young to understand, I wish I could turn back the hands of time, I could have reminded my father about the darkness that loomed. Time passed by, day by day... one day we were all in the house having our dinner eating Eba and white soup made by my mother as my Aunty screamed holding her tommy as if she was having a ache. As she did this, my mum already understood the signals she was giving... it was due time for the baby to come to the world.
