At 43km south of Bendigo and a population of around 1300 lies Chewton.
Like most of the small towns in the area, Chewton came into prominence during the 1850's gold rush years.
There are still reminders of these heady days scattered around town. There is a display where the local baker sold his wares as well as a vine covered pub, churches and beautiful old houses dotted up and down the main street.
It is well worth the 1/2 hour stop to appreciate Chewton's past glory.
