With the streets of Sri Petaling bathed in the ethereal glow of streetlights, our friend navigates his way to fetch us. The roads are totally deserted and took us less than 10 minutes to arrive the hotpot sanctuary (尚川味火锅 Shang Chuan Wei Steamboat Restaurant), only to find the door sealed shut, yet the interior still shining bright in light. A moment of collective head-scratching ensues before we realize—aha!— we need to use the main entrance.
As the mastermind of this late-night gastronomic adventure, our friend assumes the mantle of C.O.O (Chief Ordering Officer). But lo and behold, when the dishes make their grand entrance, it caught us off guard for a while with their portion size for just the three of us. We laughed for a while realising we have ordered a bit too much for mere supper but time becomes a mere construct as we savour each bite, each flavour, each moment slowly finishing it, right up until the restaurant's gates signal the end of their service at 5AM.
In an era where global inflation is the talk of the town, the value proposition of this hotpot experience stands out. The portions remain generous, seemingly untouched by the economic tremors shaking the world. A mental note is made: this culinary haven warrants a return visit. Ah, the joys of life's simple pleasures, savoured in the company of good friends and good food.
