Atmospheric Instant (Original Poetry)

in #poetry18 days ago (edited)

Truth telling
through illusion,
picking away at us
again and again,

There are many scars
that can't be seen
but it's always just
one small thing
that wakes us up,

Like the pop
of a flashbulb,
in an
atmospheric instant,
we're forced to recall
the big and small
of who we are
underneath it all,

Only then do we feel
the weight of our heart
and the ache that shakes us,

A gasp of breath taken
by each generation,
only then do we realize
we have settled
for small luxuries
instead of big dreams,

Only then can
we truly live
our second chances,
it seems, only then.

I like that analogy of the flash and the awakening: quick, but illuminating. I think we live lethargic, tired and blind. Few people have those sparks that make them react. I remember that in every photograph, when the flash appeared, I would open my eyes wide and not only would I appear with my eyes like two big round plates, but also with red eyes. Somewhere in the house must be the albums with these pictures. I have to look for them. Hugs, Eric

It's becoming more and more rare, sadly. Thank you Nancy! I hope you're well!

There are many scars
that can't be seen
but it's always just
one small thing
that wakes us up,

That's a badge of a burden we carry and those scars are integral in our lives, it just needs an event(or maybe an atmospheric instant) to spill out those unexpressed emotions/reactions.

only then do we realize
we have settled
for small luxuries
instead of big dreams

That has always been the case for generations. We have never lived our lives for that true purpose, for that un-glamorous purpose. The world around us is such a complex cliche that has made us webbed by.

Thank you so much, Sir. I thoroughly enjoyed this poetry.

🙏🙏🙏

This is such a nice and inspiring poem! We often focus on big goals and forget enjoying the whole path and small achievements on the way there.

Thank you! So true, we often find out too late it's the little things that mattered.

In this life, of course, a person will face many joys and sorrows. What a beautiful poem. Have a nice day, Eric.

Thank you my friend!

As I was reading this I got wondering how many folks these days actually know what a flashbulb pop is. I remember those goofy cubes you used to be able to buy and then you had throw them away. Now it's all LED lights. Probably better for the environment, but it definitely lacks some of the charm. Very nice poem!

I remember those cubes! There probably aren't many of us who remember those. Before the cubes there was a single bulb that would have to replaced with each lowlight shot. Thank you my friend!

There are many scars
that can't be seen
but it's always just
one small thing
that wakes us up,

Quite so many scars that we carry deep within and trying to hide from people. So many unwanted scars that we need to deal with daily

Bravo! Poet and photographer. From the old days, from the dark room and red light? In the enlarger contrasting negatives.

Amazing how photography has evolved over the years. Love your poem btw!

Perhaps, we could afford the small-temporary luxuries and leave our dreams.

Good afternoon dear friend @ericvancewalton I love how you write, another beautiful composition
I love this verse
a sigh
of every generation,
only then do we realize that
we have settled
with little luxuries
instead of big dreams
Thank you very much for sharing another beautiful poem with us.
have a beautiful day

Wow! Very insightful

We bear so many scars in life's journey but we have to celebrate little wins and little luxuries and whenever life gives us a second chance, we should utilize it appropriately.
Beautiful poem!

Beautifully written!
I see your poem in the context of tosay where people are becoming more extreme on the political spectrum instead of being more tolerate..

One should always speak the truth in life, trouble is bound to happen, but in the end truth wins

There is so much more, it's just that, humanity fell for more.

Yes unseen scars that we carry, some run very deep but we shouldn't let that deter us, we should go for big dreams.
A very meaningful piece.

"A gasp of breath taken
by each generation,
only then do we realize
we have settled
for small luxuries
instead of big dreams,"

Strong word you have here. It is high time we return back to those big dreams and go after them instead of been distracted

It is very difficult to understand the underlying meaning of this poem, because I do not have deep knowledge of poetry
