Hi there. In this short Pokemon TCG post I cover the cards Rowlet, Dartrix and Decidueye from the upcoming Night Wanderer Japanese set. These cards will be released in English internationally as a part of the Shrouded Fable expansion in August 2024.
Rowlet
Rowlet is a 70 HP basic Pokemon as a part of the Decidueye evolution line. Seventy HP is nice as it is compatible with Buddy Buddy Poffin for benching 70HP Basic Pokemon from the deck. The Leafage attack of 10 damage is not amazing but the first attack of Beak Hold is not too bad in the early game. Drawing a card in the early game can help with early game setup.
Dartrix, A New United Wings Attacker
Dartrix is a 90HP Stage 1 grass Pokemon with two attacks that cost one energy each. The second attack costs one grass energy and does 30 damage. Dartrix's first attack is something that cannot really be ignored. United Wings attack comes back in this grass attacker. This attack does 20 damage for each Pokemon with the United Wings attack in the discard pile. As Dartrix is a grass attacker it is a good counter against the Dark Tera type Charizard ex that is Stage 2 and has 330 HP. To one hit knockout the Charizard ex you need 9 United Wings attackers in the discard pile.
In the F, G, H regulation format these are the available Pokemon that have the United Wings attack. This search was done with the use of this website.
Ignoring duplicates, the United Wings attackers prior to Dartrix are:
- Wattrel
- Murkrow
- Flamigo
- Kilowattrel
In the early days, United Wings themed decks would typically run the maximum four copies of Wattrel, four copies of Murkrow, four copies of Flamigo with two copies of Ditto (I think). Kilowattrel came in later but did not see much play as United Wings decks fell off.
With Dartrix as another United Wings attacker, it is not impossible to have 9 United Wings Pokemon in the discard pile to one hit the Charizard ex. Because it is a Stage 1 Pokemon, it can be hard to get the Dartrix in play.
Decidueye
Decidueye is a single prized 150 HP Stage 2 Pokemon with two low cost attacks. The first attack lets you draw cards until you have 7 cards in hand. The second attack of Strong Shot requires a Grass energy discard from the hand to deal 170 damage. This 170 damage does do 340 damage if it hits for weakness. Strong Shot does one hit knockout a 330 HP Dark Tera Charizard ex.
As this is a Stage 2 Pokemon, it is difficult to get this card out.
Notes
There has been a noticeable increase of Grass types that can somewhat counter Charizard ex in theory. Having another United Wings attacker in the form of Dartrix is kind of interesting. I am sure some people will try United Wings decks again and see how it does.
