How to Get Started on Hive - A Short Primer for Beginners

in #primer3 years ago

Hive has a lot of great Dapps (distributed apps) to choose from, but for this lesson I'm going to assume you're using hive.blog or peakd.com.

I'm not going to talk about how to start your account or make your first post because there are already plenty of posts out there on those subjects.

This primer is more about what to do once you're on the platform and able to make posts. Things like what you should be prepared to encounter and how to build your audience on these platforms.

When you first start posting and have nothing in your wallet, no followers, and no clue what to write about it can be a little intimidating!

To start just write about anything that suits your fancy. Subjects you're familiar with are better, especially if they involve something relatively niche (i.e. a hobby, your specific daily life, your thoughts, etc). Hive shines when it comes to easy-to-digest short to mid-length material.

Be sure to edit your posts for spelling and grammatical errors as best you can. Hive's built in spell check is pretty strong, but you may need to write your posts in Google Docs or any number of free word processors to make sure your posts are very readable.

Of course, there's nothing to stop you from making longer posts, but since there's no 'you might be interested in this' algorithm on Hive (yet) you may find those longer posts falling on deaf ears given the one-week window for people to vote on posts.

Consistency

By far, the most important thing you can do on these platforms is be consistent. When you're consistent with your posting, you build a much better audience, faster. And when you're consistent with the level of your content and the material/style of that content you attract people back to your blog.

With the advent of communities there are now other ways to get to know others on the platform.

In short: don't be intimidated and keep at it! Earning the first 1,000 Hive is the hardest, but seeing your hard work and investment within the platform pay off is a reward that's difficult to put into words.

Hive - Cypersociety and Experiment

This platform has been around since 2016, and it's an experiment that continues despite many setbacks, conflicts, and obstacles. In many ways Hive is a special experiment taking place in a borderless, online society. It represents a change that I think the world hasn't quite grasped, yet. If you're reading this, consider this your chance to be one of the first to take a step into this brave new world.
