Switching Worlds | The Flamingo And The Billion Dollar Sphere

Flamingo and the billion dollar ball.jpg

Up to this point, there had been a lot less gambling than one might expect out of me being in all places in Vegas. The slots were not doing that hot and there was just so much else to see. That was until I found a place on the strip that was a lot of fun to gamble at.

Even more to my shock, the Flamingo was not that far from my hotel. How I’ve yet to be inside to check out this place until now I’ll never know. It was also far busier than many other casinos I’ve walked into during this trip. In some casinos, I even did not gamble much since people seemed to be staying away. The Flamingo was, however, not one of them.

While there were supposed to be some live Flamingos to go and see. I never ended up finding them. I was just too busy getting into a good gambling session. It’s not like I had my biggest win for the trip at this casino. They were just paying in a certain way that I could enjoy many hours of entertainment and leave slightly up or close to breaking even. With a few bonuses along the way.

I knew it from the moment I walked into the Flamingo, this place was going to be gold. It’s not like it was run down or anything. You could just tell they were not spending tons of money on the carpeting or making things look fancy. Many of the chairs which were just fine to sit on were quite worn. All of these can be great signs that a casino has some better paybacks than others since money is not going into keeping the place spotless.

This place, like many casinos, was also not that huge. You kind of get that feeling when you start seeing the use of mirrors to make a casino floor look like it's bigger than it is. At least they had some interesting three-wheel old time slots. They were, however, not my thing, so I went off exploring deeper into the casino.

One thing I felt quite short on this trip was getting bonuses. While getting a bonus on a locket it link slot always feels like a challenge. It seems today was the day. It was not amazing, but I’d have needed to land some named hearts at the start for it to have been. Still, a $56 win when I’m only a couple of spins into a slot is nothing to ignore. Even more so with how gambling has been elsewhere.

Shortly later I even got some decent line hits on Magic Grand. I had noticed a couple of bubbles were already on the screen. A couple of spins before this one I was already starting to rack up some wins. A few spins after this I left almost being up triple what I had put into the machine.

It did not take long after that slot machine to find another one willing to toss some coins at me. For a while now I’ve tended to stay away from anything that has a buffalo on it. They seem to always just pay so poorly and landing a bonus to be well rarely.

I had yet to play this one though. I don’t even recall what the name of it was. I ended up landing the free spin bonus. I then ended up looting quite a few bags in the bonus that you get to open the bags for a prize at the end.

While it took quite a few times this time around to get the bonus. Another bonus in the mid $50 after I opened all my bags was more than enough to make up what I put in. Not to mention help make up for a small loss from the machine I played before this one.

After some other casinos and a little bit more winning later. It was now dark time. There was one thing I thought I was closer to than I was. The billion-dollar sphere thing they made in Vegas. You can see it off in the distance and I wanted to get much closer to it.

It turns out that would require a bit of an adventure and walking down some rather sketchy back alleyways to get a better view of it. While sure during the day you can pay to go inside it. I was not looking to fork out that kind of money to see something that was overpaid to make in the first place. The show from the outside for free was more than good enough for me.

Do you ever get that feeling like you are lost or at least on the wrong side of the street? After quite a few blocks of walking, I was starting to get that feeling. This seems like not the view of Vegas everyone gets to see.

Even more so since I had to pass many cop cars that were parked with their lights on. Roads that were closed to any cars. Along with some back alleyways that did not have that great lighting. The kind of place you would expect to get stabbed and robbed at.

Thankfully the walk was worth it. I got as close as I wanted to go. Then I noticed there were some stairs leading up to another floor of a building that was acceptable to anyone in the public as far as I was concerned.

While the sphere was not having much of a show. It would sometimes flash and change into this giant eye thing. Other times it looked like it was a ball of water or just some strange stuff. Then it would flash into what I can only assume was some sort of advertisement for a while. Not a bad way to end the day. Thankfully I made it back safely to the hotel afterward.

Final Thoughts

This was one of those days I had no reservations to be anywhere, so I just ended up wandering around the strip till I found the Flamingo that occupied most of my day. Then I thought why not try and find the sphere while I was on that side of the strip since I had plans to go down the opposite side the next day.
