#WednesdayWalk - The Deep Freeze

sublimes.jpg

Humpday is the perfect day to go out for a walk with the camera you always have on you. That's as simple as it needs to be for the Wednesday Walk challenge championed by our friend @tattoodjay and the Make me Smile Collaboration challenge lead by @elizacheng.

This Weds, despite the blisteringly frigid temperatures, I am inspire by weds walkers from across the globe and being influenced by whiskers.

On the Last Episode...

Another 3 weeks has gone by since my last Wedswalk so I better get to it! It was the end of December and it did not look to Christmassy with a dusting of snow, blue skies and a late fall like day.

IMG_0305.JPG

Today is a different story as the weather gods have heard my pleas on Hive for winter to finally arrive. It started with a storm of sorts last week followed by prevailing winds while the temperature dropped to hover around -10.

It took me most of the day to finally look out the front window and contemplate bundling up and defying all of the extreme cold warnings. The snow has stopped for now and the sky holds the sun so I ain't afraid of a little winter!

Besides that, this little guy will be bouncing off the walls and asking to go out every 15 minutes if he doesn't get the chance to go buck wild in his happy place.

I have a great winter coat and a strong hood/scarf/hat/hood game that keeps me comfy even when it feels like -22. On the drive to the park, the sky is pleasant enough and the bare trees defiantly stand tall. Roads are plowed, plenty of people are hibernating so the drive is as easy as can be.

At the dog park, there is plenty of evidence of dogs having fun in the snow if their owners are brave/crazy enough to bring them. Nobody having a picnic at the old table though! Winter is just here and already I am thinking about warm summer.

IMG_0303.JPG

The mud has already been covered over by snow and even the stream in the back is frozen over well enough that dogs can walk on the ice. Both of these are a mercy when you consider how much my little guy likes to wade through the water and get all kinds of muddy for the car in spring and fall. If this water was not frozen, he would be in it no matter how cold it is.

IMG_0304.JPG

The burrs are huddling tightly together to brave the winter under a blanket of snow. If they can hold on a few more months, the seeds will drop and we will have plenty of pointy sticky pods to stick to the dogs in the park.

Birdhouse tree presides proudly over the back section of the dog park though I suspect the house is vacant.

IMG_0311.JPG

The pants are lined but the boots are not the most insulated but a brick pace this weds walk keeps you comfy and warm despite the deep freeze.

IMG_0310.JPG

Not that this little guy notices. He has a mission to sprint every trail, check and see which dogs want to wrestle, and sniff every fallen log for critters to hunt.

IMG_0316.JPG

The days are getting slightly longer every passing one which makes it easier to get out to the park when there is still daylight. It is barren after sunset but today there is a crew of walkers and 4 dogs who instantly get along and chase each other everywhere.

IMG_0317.JPG

The sun does still go down close to 5:00 and an hour in the extreme cold is about enough for both of us.

IMG_0318.JPG

One last quick check of the back yard in case those pesky rabbits or possums have encroached in our absence.

Off to the Mats!

When all is said and done, I chose to cap the night off with a little Brazilian Jiu Jitsu action, which may become a regular part of my Wednesday routine. Nothing like a little exercise to put the finishing touches on a great Wednesday. Definitely enough to make me smile.

How was your Wendesday?

Sort:

Wow! Lots of snow and lots of Sunshine or Sunset? Your Wednesday walk was definitely so fruitful, especially with those dogs really having a great time, in the snow.

Happy hump day
The pictures are looking very beautiful and kinda blue
As for me, I’ve been working all day
I’m on my way home

The dog looks so happy running and playing outside, even despite the cold. Good for you guys for getting out there and braving the weather 👍

A few years back I may have braved those temps but not these days

That’s a lot of snow but so beautiful

Wednesday must have really been cold. So much cold

The weather must have really been so much cold. So cold ❄️
