Cottonwood Buds:Nature’s anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and preservative

Truly, abundance is a given, it just takes a keen observer to witness all the ways we are provided for.

We were called to the creek today for the first time this year, just in time to witness the towering elder Cottonwoods gathering on the river bank, leaf buds swollen and oozing with medicinal resin..and so ready for harvesting. Yay!!

Our youngest “Sage” jumps right in and sings to the trees as she harvests. ☺️

If you are blessed to be close to a river, flood plain or natural spring, you will most likely have access to a few cottonwood trees...and now is the time...late winter or early spring...to keep your eyes peeled for the buds and nostrils open to receive the aroma!

Once you harvest a few handfuls of them just pop ‘em in a glass jar, cover with your oil of choice, and let the jar sit for a few months in a cool area out of direct sunlight for a cold-infusion. Or you can put it out in the sun for a few weeks for a faster solar infusion. ☀️

The resin-infused strained oil can be used as-is or added to topical salves, lip balms or massage oils to heal skin wounds and inflammation and prevent infection. The salicin in the resin is notorious for relieving minor muscle aches and pains. I’m gonna experiment with adding it to my homemade soaps to benefit from this medicine daily. 🧼

The cottonwood is a close relative Populus Balsamifera is what is referred to in the Bible as “The Balm of Gilead”....which just tickles me to say 😂

Her gifts are everywhere! I hope y’all get a chance to venture out and allow your senses to guide you to the abundance that is on display...err-day!

All my love,

💕Pachee❤️
