Like reacquainting with an old friend

I'm slowly losing my vision with age, but I'm happy that my sense of smell is still powerful.

I take note of aromas and scents because I am very much into mindfulness, and olfaction is one of my stronger senses.

Still, for some reason, I had stopped wearing perfume. This could have happened since I was living on a narrowboat, and scents attract insects by the canal and I am a natural mosquito magnet.

I'm so delicious that mosquitoes can't stop eating me 🙃 (I fucking hate mosquitoes!!!).

I prefer light, fresh, floral scents, never musky, and not fruity. My two favourite perfumes that I've worn for donkeys are Issey Miyake and Jadore.

A few months ago while I was in Jamaica, I stumbled upon this old photo below, which brought happy memories of an old favourite perfume that I wore in the late 90s. Right away, I missed that side of me.

I first got into perfumes while working as a Concierge at a resort many moons ago, and one of the perks was gifts from the duty-free shops.

This photo is priceless. I went through the perfume phase of my life with these friends. We all like light fresh scents. The green flowers in our outfits triggered memories of the Cabotine de Grès, its unique green flower cap.

Isn't the flower cap attractive, I like the font too.

Somehow I was misled into believing that the line of perfume was discontinued, but it might have been a miscommunication and probably the seller had stopped selling the brand.
Haha, eBay is to the rescue. I found this perfume straight away at a good price, and I was ecstatic!

I wondered if maybe I had outgrown the scent, but memories of the captivating, light, floral scent, a distinct one, came rushing back, so I took a gamble and ordered it. The Cabotine de Grès has citrusy slightly spicy notes that are sharp, but balanced.

The package arrived yesterday, and somehow the mailman did not knock on the door. I guess it's because it was raining heavily. I just happened to look outside and saw the box.
I anxiously opened the package and sprayed a light mist on my arm's pulse, it was like reacquainting with an old friend.

Am I pleased with the purchase? You bet! It's ideal for everyday wear, and I'm light-handed when wearing perfumes, as I don't like overpowering scents.

Too much perfume to me becomes a pleasant body odour.

I tend to only spray perfume on pulse areas lightly.

Will I ever go back to wearing Issey Miyake and Jadore? Of course! But for now, I'll be enjoying this one:)

What's your favourite perfume?
What influences your choice?

I think some people can sniff a scent and just go with whatever they find, but I always go back to my favourite ones.

All the photos belong to me.

Issey Miyake! That’s the love of my life 😍 It’s so gentle that I never get bored of it. In the past, DKNY was my love, but these days it seems too heavy.

That bottle of yours does look delicious though and there is nothing that brings nice memories back as well as a scent for me too. Would love to sniff yours and see what comes to mind ☺️

I always say that smell is my superpower, which can be a blessing and a curse at times. With age my memory seems to be playing tricks on me, but not my smell 😉

I happened to discover Issey Miyake at a time when I thought I could never appreciate a new fragrant. Somehow, it quickly became my fav.
I wish I could let the blockchain sniff this Cabotine perfume. It's a unique scent.

With age my memory seems to be playing tricks on me, but not my smell

I can relate to that 😆

Thanks for stopping by, and for the token:)))

I’ll remember the bottle and if ever I see it, I’ll give it a good sniff. Sounds like a scent I could enjoy from your description ☺️

Issey… my friend introduced me to it some 10+ years ago and I keep going back to it. Sometimes they do nice limited editions. I had a pink one and it was my other fav, but I can’t find it anymore.

My pleasure! I do love another scent lover 😍💙

My husband bought me a pink one once. It was nice too.
Yes, nice to see another scent lover, indeed 😍💚

Many many years ago I had Jadore and I remember I loved it. Later I saw a bottle at my sisters place... still smelled amazing. One day I will get it again :)

I also do not like sweet or very heavy, scents. More fresh and light. Do you know Gucci Envy Me? I actually don't know if they still sell it. I have had it for a while. I think this is my absolute favorite.
Hugo Boss Femme and Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue are also very nice.

Oh... I just found it :(

Ah, yes! I wore Gucci Envy, and then Gucci Envy Me for a while too. They are great scents, but they are not fresh in my mind.
Also Hugo Boss Femme and many versions of Elizabeth Arden. Perfumes were an addiction.
I remember walking in the shops smelling dozens of different perfumes till it became hard to differentiate. Most of my tips from guests were spent on perfumes, on top of the free ones I got.

It's a shame that GEm was discontinued.
Cerruti 1881 Femme, and Happy by Clinique were some delightful fresh ones, and also Noa. Gosh, these have brought back so many fond memories 😍

Love Boss Femme too! I haven’t had it for a long time though

Love Jadore! Although with age it became a bit too sweet for me 🤪 Still love a little spray of it on my wrist at the airport 😍

Surprisingly, I felt that way at one stage, and the scent is not fresh in my mind, so I wondered if I should order the travel-sample size to make sure that it still ticks my fancy... Hmm, with your comment, I think I better do that 😍

And I think I shall do that too. I remember loving it back in a day… maybe I can still do it in small portions too 🥰 Great minds, hey? 😁

Yeah, the idea came to me recently when I saw some travel-size perfumes on eBay. It would be a shame if for any reason you lost your big bottle of perfume, but the travel size is also nice for taking in your handbag so that you could freshen up throughout the day.
Have a lovely Monday and a great week ahead🌼

Yes, that would work out perfectly for my salsa adventures! My bestie actually did just that when we went to Covent Garden last time. She bought a box of miniatures, but since I’m not familiar with Pentaligons brand, I wouldn’t risk buying the scents I don’t know, but I’m smelling everyone one she takes out to salsa to see if they agree with me and if I like them all, I might buy a box next time too 😍

Will check ebay as well, thanks for the tip and have an amazing one too 💙

Ok, best of luck with finding the scents you love, and have fun doing it. You might see a really good price and decide to sample it💚

I've never bought a bottle of perfume but a friend once gave me a gift of Fidji de Guy Laroche, it must be about 40 years ago now. I think I still have it somewhere in the attic:)

I think I still have it somewhere in the attic:)

Hehe! I used to get perfume as a gift from guests all the time at the resort. An Italian gave me a lovely scent, one that I would never have purchased for myself. I slightly musky one. Somehow it blended well with my chemistry and the scent grew on me.

😆 I take it you're not into perfumes. That's ok!... I figured that out over the last few years:)

I'm your original minimalist, no perfume, no jewelry, no makeup.

I used to get perfume as a gift from guests all the time at the resort.

Of course you did! You look like a lady with the style and panache to carry off even the most flamboyant of scents:)

I'm your original minimalist, with no perfume, no jewelry, and no makeup.

👏I admire women like you. It's a great trait or practice.

Honestly, I'm very different now, and my friends use that photo to remind me of the person I was.
These days I'm happy to go out without any makeup, or jewelry and just a fully moisturised face.
I have many moods though, and the panache still comes naturally.😊
Thank you:)

Ooh how exciting. You found it!!! That's so awesome. When I was younger I used to love Nina and L'air du temps by Nina Ricci... and then they seemed to have disappeared... maybe it was also from my area. You have inspired me to go back to my roots and search out the Nina Ricci range... which I have just seen is vegan too! I currently have Prada Candy... which I love! My hubby bought it for me years ago on a business trip and I have purchased it ever since! I need to diversify back to some old faves! hehe... thank you for this... it took me down memory lane! Now I need to remember the other fave I had in between Nina and Candy. Enjoy your new fragrance* , my lovely... !LOLZ !LUV

Hehe! I could not believe I got back my little green flower cap 😍
Another perfume I liked during the 90s is Noa. I saw it on eBay as well. I thought they stopped making that.

I've never heard of the Nina Ricci perfume, but I believe she made clogs. I had a serious fascination with wooden clogs in my teenage years. I had a terracotta one with intricate designs, and I'm sure that the brand was Nina Ricci. Never heard of Prada Candy. It sounds sweet 😁

I hope that you'll find all your old favourite ones. Perfumes are expensive, but they do lift the mood, and make us feel good... so it's worth it😊

Nina Ricci perfumes... or at least the ones I liked were light and floral... Prada Candy is sweet but not over sweet... it actually works well on me. I had my reservations when hubby handed me the gift... but it turned out to be a happy match... and I had no idea Nina Ricci made shoes hahaha... you learn something new every day! Hope you are having lovely day, Milly 💗

Yes, I'm having a great day so far. It's still miserable outside, but a bit brighter, and my health is coming improving steadily.
Yes, Nina Ricci does shoe design. Even if it wasn't clogs that I had from her, it was shoes. I only realise that she does perfumes too.

I love gifts like those. You get introduced to something new that you never would have tried.
I hope you're having a great day too, and fingers crossed that warmer weather will be upon us in the next coming weeks 😘

I'm so delicious that mosquitoes can't stop eating me 🙃 (I fucking hate mosquitoes!!!)

Oh, the hateeeee, I feel you on that one. I hate mosquitoes more than anything in this whole damn world. If a genie ever popped up and gave me three wishes, the first wish would be to eradicate every damn mosquito out of existence, as if these pests never even existed. That's how much I hate these things.

What's your favourite perfume? What influences your choice?

I like a fresh scent, longevity is what I look for. I've used and fallen in love with many different fragrances; from the cheap Old Spice to the designers and niche perfumes too.

I even have a custom fragrance made from perfume oils, sent here all the way from Dubai, it's actually a replica of the Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis. It's a sweet, wintery option, so I don't get to use it a lot. Givenchy Pour Homme is my main "daily" option, a fresher option, better suited to our weather.

And Issey Miyake is a great option too, I don't have one in my inventory but I do know people who absolutely love their fragrances.

I have similar wishes, you know. I HATE the little buggers. It's an allergy that I record on my health card. I accidentally burned my mum's expensive curtains from all the mosquito coils that I had lit. She was so annoyed. She was mad at me, but not as angry as I was with all the mosquitoes that kept buzzing my ear and biting me.

I even have a custom fragrance made from perfume oils

Nice! I'm also using 2 perfume oils that I purchased in Egypt - Lotus and Amber oils. They are good and have multiple benefits.

Yeah, Issey Miyake kind of just stuck with me. I know most of those that you mention. I went through a real perfume stage and took a keen interest in men's cologne too:)

I accidentally burned my mum's expensive curtains from all the mosquito coils that I had lit.

That exactly is one of my mother's worst nightmares right there. 😂

and took a keen interest in men's cologne too

Many women actually prefer men's perfume over women's, and it's understandable, because the men's perfume category has a ton of variants and types.

Luckily there were no flames, just a series of holes. 😂 I felt really bad and it took me forever to find the right moment to inform her of my accident.

Yeah, I used to use male cologne as a teenager. I guess it was until I discovered fresh, lighter smells. Before, I was only aware of cheaper sweet fragrances that did not appeal to me. No cologne or perfume is better than a cheap pungent fragrance.

Luckily there were no flames, just a series of holes.

I wouldn't even have to inform her, her supermom superpowers would smell the damage from miles away. 😂

No cologne or perfume is better than a cheap pungent fragrance.

I actually like my cheaper options more than the expensive ones, they're more classy and old school. It's the type of smell I grew up smelling all around, mostly on my father, uncles and cousins. I absolutely love that strong and "manly" projection from the notes.

I am not into heavy scents or the sweet ones, but I prefer the ones that give me a refreshing vibe. Also, I don't go to perfume stores to check out new fragrances available, but I always stick with the ones I already have for years.

Yes, heavy scents are just not for me. 😆
Going to perfume stores can get overwhelming. So, yes, once you discover a fragrant that you like, I think it's best to stick to it:)))

Perfume is so personal, and, yes, it must never overpower. I have old fashioned taste :

Wow! Now that's a new one for me. I don't recall it somehow. It's classed as vintage though, so I would be inclined to try it:)))

it must never overpower.

😡

I'm using Bench Raspberry. Though I like fresh and light floral scents, I prefer to wear sweet and fruity ones Hehe.

The color of your perfume makes me think of a fresh mint smell. Love its flower cap design.🌸

I prefer to wear sweet and fruity ones Hehe.

Hehe! Something tells me that your personality is sweet, so I'm not surprised 😍

Yes, you would think mint, but there's none. Instead, there are hints of mandarin, ginger, and ylang-ylang 🌳

Oh wow! never heard such fragrance of perfume.☺️ Interesting .

Thanks Maam.😍

You're welcome:)))

Perfumes really has its way of taking you through nostalgia.
I remember walking in the supermarket when I came across a scent, an old ex used to wear that perfume, all of a sudden memories I thought I forgot came back. It was crazy lol

What's your favourite perfume?
What influences your choice?

I’ve always been obsessed with soft and feminine scents, my fav at the moment is Ur way. A friend recommended it for me and I’ve been hooked ever since 🥰

all of a sudden memories I thought I forgot came back. It was crazy

Yeah! That happens.

Soft and feminine scents are pleasant and all you really need. Thanks for telling me about that Armani, Ur Way. I like the look of it:)))

It smells as good as it looks too and you’re welcome 😊
Oh did I mention, that dress looks stunning on you!

Thank you 😊
