Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge - Heavy Hitters 2 - Modern Diamond Ranked

in Splinterlands15 days ago
Hello everyone! This is my second entry for this week's Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge with the Heavy Hitters rule set!

Heavy Hitters is a rule set that gives the Knock Out ability to all monsters. Honestly, there isn't much strategy in this rule set. Most of the time you want to play the best team, ignoring this ability. Stun becomes better but not that much. Stun is already pretty good when it activates. Making it better when it does, doesn't cover its main weakness: having bad RNG and not activating. I don't recommend playing several Stun monsters just for this. Play them if you were already gonna play them or if you are in doubt about 2 different monsters.

Let's take a look at a game with this rule set. I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond Ranked: https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_7eb8996de2601d7f15fab4ec1c43f1a9

This game also has the Lost Legendaries and the Odd Ones Out rule sets. I went with Kelya Frendul as my summoner. I placed Cruel Sethropod in the front with Flying Squid in the Reach slot. Next, I had Merdaali Guardian, Uraeus and Pelacor Bandit. For the final slot, I placed Swamp Spitter. Their summoner was Underboss Fabino. Pelacor Mercenary was their tank and they had Fungus Flinger next to it. Venari Scout was the third one, followed by Venari Marksrat. They put Satha Toledo in the fifth position with Blackmoor Nymph in the last one. Both players ignored the Heavy Hitters as no one played any Stun monsters. To be fair, with Lost Legendaries and Odd Ones Out, there aren't as many Stun options but there are still some like Hill Giant and Water Caller.

They gave + 2 attack to their 2 melee monsters. In round 1, I missed a few attacks. No monsters died but my Sethropod took a lot of damage and Affliction. In round 2, I was able to take out their sixth monster, despite the misses and the Lookout. However, they finished my tank and their Mercenary was still at full health. There were a few misses in round 3 and no monster died. In round 4, I was able to finally take out Satha Toledo, which drastically reduced their ability to Heal. Marksrat died to the poison. The game was looking better and better for me and in round 5, my Swamp Spitter didn't miss the Mercenary and killed it with the exact damage needed. Scout went out next and the one was 100% over with just Fungus Flinger left.
