Let's travel together #301 - Vyšehradské Sady (Vyšehrad Gardens)

During my trips which often end up exhausting due to all the points of interest I try to cover in a limited amount of time, I always seek for this kind of spots where I can take a break. A break from crowded places, from traffic noise, from all the rush and everything.

And while my stop at Vyšehradské Sady was taken in between two destinations that I had on my list, I thought it was about time to discover something that even though wasn't part of my 'to-see list', felt pretty nice. In plus, I needed a break to eat something and recharge my batteries before continuing the day.

I actually read on the internet that Prague is known for many parks and gardens throughout the city, so it would be a great loss to return home before seeing some of these, starting with Vyšehrad Gardens which was the closest to me back in that day.

I wasn't travelling alone, but with my sister and three common friends of ours, and we were looking on the GPS for our next destination while leaving from the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul that I'll cover in a different post.

So instead of sitting in a place, we thought that we could walk around until deciding on what path we should follow next.

That's how we made it to Vyšehradské Sady which is not a common park as it's surrounded by high brick walls reminding us about a possible fortress and obviously lots of history that was written on here.

But what makes this park really special from the others are the hidden tunnels and underground passages taking you to different points of interest from Prague, one of them being the Charles Bridge, but also the impressive sculptures where some of which have been dating since the 11th century.

Even though the paths within the park are literally endless and I have seen quite a few people sitting on the green grass as well, I didn't want to step over it so I called myself satisfied to admire the sculptures and take pictures of these from the distance, just one making an exception which I managed to get to pretty close.

I am not very sure what each sculpture represents, but two that seemed to stand out more in front of the others were Ctirad a Sarka and the equestrian statue of St. Wenceslas.

However, if you thought the park was all about romantic dates and beautiful walks between the statues, then keep in mind that it represents a true oasis of tranquillity, from where you can make it to the next level by following those stairs we spotted just before leaving the park.

They take you close to a different world where you leave nature and green scenery behind while having Prague on your feet.

What replaces the view of the park and its sculptures in a blink, is nothing else but the view over Petřín, Malá Strana and Hradčany being perfectly accompanied by the Vltava River which we have met in more destinations of ours while in Prague.

But even if what we have seen before from the park was sort of left behind, its vibe could be still felt through all the relaxing moments, silence and beauty that you could spot no matter the direction you looked towards to. And this is the perfect feeling one can enjoy on a trip without being forced to focus on a specific spot in front of you, having numerous definitions of beauty shared all at the same time.

After we spent a good amount of time in the park that recharged our batteries more than anything seen so far in Prague, we slowly made it to our next destination, crossing by the impressive 11th-century Rotunda of St. Martin that represents the largest and oldest rotunda in the city and the only completely preserved Romanesque building in Vyšehrad.

Sadly, we missed the chance to visit it in case it was open as the door from the outside seemed locked, but admired it from the distance as we were a bit in a rush to manage to see everything we had planned for that day. So, if you make it to this part of Prague, don't miss it as we did. Some regrets will haunt you otherwise.

I feel bad that we weren't inspired enough to bring a blanket with us and enjoy a picnic in the park which is allowed based on what I've found on the internet. But I am still happy that we made it to the Vyšehrad Gardens as we came with a strict list from home of what to see while in Prague and there were literally lots of destinations that made our days full and exhausting, so every time we were spotting something that wasn't part of the list felt like a real bliss.

In order to make it to the Vyšehradské Sady you can use the Trams 7, 14, 18, and 24 and have a short walk from Ostrčilovo to the park. By Metro is another option, so you can consider Line C which stops close to the park as well.

Happily, the park is pretty close to plenty of other interesting places but I'll make sure to cover them one by one in the following posts.

Oh.. thank you so much! 💕❤️✨

I was there. It is so beautiful! 😊

Really? That's so awesome to hear! In what season did you visit the park?

I think it was spring. I was a couple of years ago so i don’t remember well.

I see. Must have been so beautiful! We saw it somewhere in September last year but I bet the scenery is even more beautiful when nature is waking up after winter!

Yeah it really is!

Nice :) I like Vyšehrad, it´s one of my favorite places in Prague. It has very special, somewhat romantic and even mysterious vibes, especially if you visit the cemetery too. You took some very cool pictures there :)

@tipu curate 2

especially if you visit the cemetery too

I did! Just ran out of time to write about that one as it will require more time for research than the park did but will definitely write about it at one point as well.

Honestly, this park is the first one that won't miss from my list if I ever return to Prague. I just love everything about it :)

Woah, that's such a long time ago!!

The places are indeed beautiful. One day I’ll be fit for this kind of adventure, ❤️😋 meanwhile i can’t wait for that day to come

Keeping my fingers crossed for you to see this place one day :)
