Adding Cyber to your skills:

Hey guys, I want to share with you a course I found on coursera to learn the basics of cyber security created by Google. The google certificate can be obtain by completing all 8 courses, you can find the details below.

https://www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/google-cybersecurity#courses

I started this path on the 13th of February 2024 and I as of today (5th of March) I just completed the third course about Network Security. So fare the course quality is pretty good and goes over all the vocabulary you need to understand Cyber threats and how to handle them using current US security standards like NIST
https://www.nist.gov/cybersecurity

The certificate is entry level anyone can join.

I took advantage of a one week free trial on coursera, I liked it and I am now paying the course around $50 per month until I complete it. I am a software developer by trade and I have some background knowledge about the type of attacks that are possible so it does help me in going through the course at a faster pace then if you are a beginner but I believe it is still possible to join without IT knowledge, the learning curve will be steeper and it might take you longer. According to coursera this course was designed to be completed in less then 6 months (7h/week) but I do plan on finishing before that.

My current goal is to complete 5/8 courses by the 21st of march and 8/8 by 21st of April (maybe you guessed it but it is my renewal date) bringing my total cost to less then $100. I am wondering if I can make that much just posting on InLeo about it, that is an interesting thought to got into me as I am writing this.

The next goal is CompTia Security+

This is where I am going with this, I want to upgrade my skills to include at least some cyber security knowledge as this is a growing trend and cyber attacks are on the rise everywhere. I could even consider some work in the field, we will see.

Anyway, compTia is a well recognized certification which is valid for 3 years after you pass the exam, the new version came out CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701), you can find all the details on the website https://www.comptia.org/certifications/security

It is a entry level certification that is a plus for anyone looking to work as a cyber security analyst. Of course there are other certifications but I am choosing this one because the google course I talked about is basically training you for this exam and I believe I will get a discount to the compTia exam by completing the google certification via Coursera.

I tried generating an image with GPT-4 to illustrate" cyber security learning path" and this is what I got, I think this AI isn't doing a great job when it inputs text into image creation. I have notice that sometimes spelling is wrong when you explicitly tell it to put a word inside an image. I guess it is a hard job for AI at the moment.
