Foodtrip: Kitchen Story

in Weekend Experiences5 months ago

It was a slow weekend and my Sister and her husband were in the mood to eat out. They have taken me to a lot of good places already, and they still have a lot lined up. One of those restaurants is Kitchen Story. It is not that close to their house so we had to drive there. It is also rather popular so we had to get there early to avoid the rush.

When we arrived there, it was a simple but nice looking restaurant. Even though we were very early, there were already a few people eating their food. The employees were busy setting up, but we were easily able to get a good seat. As soon as we were seated, a lot more people started pouring in. I guess it really was that popular.

The building looked modern, and the inside decorations mimicked that as well. They had a mix of wooden furniture and unique lamps and light fixtures. We were then given the menu, and I was surprised at how varied their selections was. I wasn't able to take a picture of it, but it was a mix of Korean and American dishes. Some even seemed like a fusion of both.

Since rice meals aren't too common in the US, I was excited to order one of them. I ordered the "Open Face" dish that has a Wagyu patty, spinach, vegetables, white cheddar, fried egg, ginger rice, and demi-glace. My sister ordered some "MILLIONAIRE’S BACON" which is supposed to be one of their best sellers. My brother in law ordered Gogi Bowl which was Marinated short rib served with vegetables over rice.

The Millionaire's Bacon was a thick, free range bacon, baked with brown sugar,
cayenne, red and black pepper. I usually like my bacon simple and just a little salty, so I am curious how this one tasted. I have tried some honeycured bacon before, and it was just ok.

We also ordered some drinks like the "Millionaire’s Mary" which is a House special Bloody Mary that comes with the special bacon. I wanted to take more pictures, but as soon as my order arrived, I forgot about it. The Open Face dish looks so appetizing. The different colors, and the large amount of ingredients really blew me away. There was a big patty still underneath all that egg and vegetables.

Not only did the food look delicious, but it tasted awesome as well. I can taste the different flavors combining for a complex dish that isn't overpowering. The patty was well seasoned, and the ginger rice was the perfect combo for the different flavors. The slight ginger taste was like a palette cleanser, so each spoonful was as good as the first. The Millionaire's Mary was good, but it was the Bacon that made it go over the top. I can understand why their Bacon was popular. It also had a complex flavor because of the cayenne, peppers, brown sugar, and the meat itself.

My brother in law had a snack before leaving, so he wasn't able to finish his dish. I was more than happy to eat the rest of the short rib and rice. At the end of our meal, my tummy was full, and I ended up leaving very satisfied.

The place looks simple but cozy.

The rice looks like fried rice here. Has garlic and ginger as well seasoning.

Yeah, it really was. I can see it being a good place to bring the family, or even go on a date.
