Dibujar retratos no es algo que me llame mucho la atención hacer. Prefiero dedicarme a dibujar cosas que vengan a mi imaginación.
Sin embargo, hay que tomar en cuenta que la práctica del retratismo contribuye mucho a mejorar la percepción, el manejo de las proporciones e incluso el color y la sombras.
Así que, salvo que sea una comisión, me mantengo en la zona cómoda de dibujar lo que me gusta. Para salir de ella, recurro al truco de buscar personas que me llame la atención dibujar o que admire.
En mi caso, me gusta mucho el Rock Japonés, (JRock), así que busco artistas que me llamen la atención dibujar.
Al tratar de reproducir una imagen, estarás mirando durante muchas horas a la misma foto de referencia, por lo que es un buen incentivo si la foto se te hace agradable mirar y buscar los detalles para plasmarlos en la ilustración.
Muchas veces, me dedico a hacer estas prácticas con mi guitarrista preferido, Teru. Me encantan sus vestuarios y maquillaje así que es un reto reproducir la imagen y que sea identificable.
Otros artistas del Rock Japonés que he retratado han sido: Gackt, Kamijo, Masashi, Jasmine You, Hizaki, Kyosuke Himuro, entre otros.
Esta fue una práctica que hice con ZIN, ex - vocalista de la banda Jupiter.
De la imagen, me llamó la atención su cabello y la iluminación. Se nota que usaron una luz fuerte que hacía que sus rasgos apenas se percibieran, dándole un aspecto delicado a la imagen donde lo más resaltante son los ojos del cantante.
También me gustó la decoración del traje y me dediqué a interpretarlos para buscar de dar la sensación de la textura en los bordes de la chaqueta.
Me tomó algo de tiempo suavizar los trazos para dar la delicadeza al rostro. Este fue el resultado:

Drawing portraits is not something that really grabs my attention. I prefer to dedicate myself to drawing things that come to my imagination.
However, it's important to consider that practicing portraiture contributes a lot to improving perception, handling of proportions, and even color and shadows.
So, unless it's a commission, I stick to the comfort zone of drawing what I like. To step out of it, I rely on the trick of finding people who catch my attention to draw or whom I admire.
In my case, I really like Japanese Rock (JRock), so I look for artists who catch my attention to draw.
When trying to reproduce an image, you'll be looking at the same reference photo for many hours, so it's a good incentive if the photo is pleasant to look at and to search for the details to capture them in the illustration.
