Hello SPIers, yesterday we looked at what if "HIVE browser" that pays HIVE rewards like Brave pays BAT, today we go real-world and look at HIVE Burger!

image.png

Continuing on from yesterday's thought of how DHF funding could be used, we look into something that is rarely seen within proposals, real-world businesses. I think the idea of HIVE funding a real-world business would be a smart move if the profits from that business were brought back to HIVE creating some buying power. Depending on the business type, it could be used as a way to promote HIVE's eco-system as well.

Today, we'll look into the idea of a burger joint which could used in a thousand ways to promote HIVE. A burger joint is easy to gamify, take Micky D's Monopoly game are free toy with kids' meals as an example. A business that does window cleaning might be harder to gamify.

I have some real-life experience with this sort of business, I was actually the youngest ever General Manager at 20 for a company called Harry Ramsdens which is a popular Fish and Chip restaurant in the UK with a 90-year history and 40 locations. During my time there, I learned all the ins and outs, the costs, how to hire and train staff, manage budgets, do payrolls, do everything basically. I gave them 80-100 hours a week, knocked my balls in for them and absorbed information like a sponge and in return, they gave me opportunities and I soon became the go-to golden boy.

So I have experience with this and understand what it takes and what is costs to make it work. Im not going to go into much detail because this is just a fart idea post but I will touch on why this would be good for HIVE.

Why a Burger Joint

Burgers are easy, and fun and everyone loves burgers. If you use good ingredients and produce consistently good products, a burger joint can be very profitable. Because a burger joint only focuses on burgers, you can keep the menu small, offer 4-5 burgers +1 burger of the week, 3-4 sides, 1-2 desserts (Cookies and vegan🤢 Brownies) and only water to wash it down. A small menu results in lower food costs and lower food wastage. It makes it easier to plan ahead, train staff on preparation and many other things.

There are a hundred ways to promote HIVE through a burger joint. Off the top of my head, the first thing I would think about is the paper wrapper that wraps a burger. This is basically a blank piece of paper we can fill with information about the HIVE blockchain, QR codes, paid promotions, event details and contests. Something like this 👇 but better

image.png

Can you imagine getting a burger wrapped in this? ☝️

To make it fun and create a welcoming atmosphere, we can...

  • Make the theme "crypto" That would be our gimmick, the Crypto Burger place.
We'd have TV screens showing crypto news, live charts, memes/gifs, etc. Have crypto-related table games, magazines/books, etc. Have a public PC so customers can upload content, there are tons of things that can done to keep people busy and entertained. Think like a sports bar that is crypto-themed and sells burgers if that makes sense. Thats how is see it in my head.
  • Host live-streamed burger-eating contests to win large HIVE and HBD prizes
  • Pay for your orders with HIVE or HBD via QR code
  • Show a HIVE account worth over $1000 and get a 10% member discount
  • Offer venue catering at cost price for crypto events (and then promote HIVE to them, haha)

There are lots of ways to promote a burger joint, the list is endless.

What would it cost for HIVE burger to become a thing?

image.png

Off the top of my head and in the UK, $150-200k to do it properly on budget. Could be 50-80k lower if we decided to lease equipment instead of buying it but then you'd be paying a few thousand every month for the rentle costs. Location is the best variable for the start-up cost. Something in London might cost $350k a year and have 1 million people within a 5-mile radius whereas something in Belfast might cost $50k a year but only have 50k within a 5-mile radius.

The biggest operational overhead for this sort of business is normally staffing costs followed by food costs. 50% of your total revenue should cover staffing and food costs, 30-35% of your revenue should pay for everything else leaving you with 15-20% gross profit. Staffing and utility costs can be reduced by limiting open times to peak 5-6 hours a day.

How much could it make?

Hard to say, to completely ballpark it and assume we offered delivery through apps.

  • 100 orders per day
  • $20 average order
    = $2000 daily revenue
= $200-300 gross profit are day
  • $75 - 110k per year

We go somewhere in the middle, we could ballpark and say HIVE burger could make $90k per year. Thats 300k HIVE that could be bought and burnt!!

Could it scale?

image.png

Yep, if we a successful flagship burger joint and we want to scale up, we rent an industrial unit and use it to produce our beef patties, bake our buns and prep all the ingredients we use at HIVE burger. Doing this offers use 2 ways to expand quickly, the first would offer franchises and the second would be to set up ghost kitchens in existing restaurants. Producing our own patties, buns and other menu items ensures consistency across the board. In both cases, our business plan changes from being a burger joint to being a food wholesaler.

This would have the potential to create a $1 million-a-year business but we're daydreaming at this point. With that said, we dont go this far without seeing would that could be for HIVE. $1 million is 3.15M HIVE which is 0.7% of all the HIVE in circulation. Im not sure how many are liquid but im sure buying $1 million of HIVE would have a positive effect on teh price 😘

Anyone fancy a job at HIVE Burger?

So thats the post, thought it would be fun to write a post for a real-world idea and way to promote HIVE. I think the idea of running a real-world business that brings profit into HIVE would be amazing.

Share your thoughts below.

What burger and side would you pick?

I'd go for a 3speak Sizzler with some SPI Sweet Potato Wedges and PIMP Poppers. Writing this is making me hungry.

No fresh fruits and veggies from the Dcrops farms? I will sell you mine exclusively. 🤣

And don't forget the mead, wine and beer!
