Why I Think Peakd, Hive.blog, 3Speak and Dapplr Should Adopt The Hiveonboard Referral Program Soon

While discussing the hiveonboard.com Referral Program, I keep asking the question, “When will a Hive dApp integrate the hiveonboard Referral Program?”

Let’s talk a little about why this referral program is exactly what is needed right now, and let’s start with understanding how the referral system works.

Hiveonboard is a new system that allows anyone to create a free Hive account in minutes, with no delay. It uses a phone verification system to reduce fraud and fake accounts. It’s easy, quick, and straightforward to use. The feedback so far from new users has been very good.

Hiveonboard also contains a Learn Section with infographics that help new users quickly understand some basics in Hive. I created the large infographic with the Hive Power explanation as seen below:

(you can share this infographic on social media and Hive posts)

This was done on a voluntary basis, because I believe that Hiveonboard is the solution that Hive most needs right now.

Now Let’s look at the referral system in detail.

The best thing about Hiveonboard is the fact that anyone can create his/her own personal referral link, and then track the actions of the new people s/he onboards.

🤠 Get your personal referral link: go to https://hiveonboard.com/what-is-hive and type in your Hive account. That will give your personal referral link.

🐣 Get your new referrals tracking page: go to https://hiveonboard.com/what-is-hive and type in your Hive account. That will give your tracking dashboard where you can see who has posted, who has set their profile photo and how much HP and RC each user has.

Ok, now that you have an overview of the Hiveonboard referral program, let’s discuss how the beneficiary system works with this (this system has not yet been adopted by any of the dApps like Peakd, Hive.blog or Dapplr).

For every new user you would onboard, you would receive 3% of the rewards that this new user generates. Also, the dApp would receive 1% and the Hiveonboard provider would receive 1%. These beneficiary rewards could be changed by the user once they start learning the Hive ecosystem better, so there is no guarantee that you will always get a beneficiary 3% reward going forward. But it’s a start in the right direction for sure. Advanced users are a very low percentage of Hive users, imo.

Let’s talk about human incentives and the reality of onboarding new users right now, without the 3% beneficiary rewards. I’ll talk from own experiences, as I have been using the Hiveonboard referral program since the 26th of May. I have been delegating 5 HP for every new user who signs up with the @hivepeople referral link. Once the user gets their own HP, or a friend delegates to them, I remove the 5 HP.

Here are the stats from the @hivepeople account which you can view here: https://hiveonboard.com/referrals/hivepeople

Number of new users who joined with @hivepeople referral link: 24

Number of referred users who wrote a post or comment: 13

Total amount of HP delegated to new users: 115 HP

As you can see from the above data, onboarding new users right now is a losing money operation. If I was to start a campaign and onboard significantly more new users, it's possible that I might run out of HP to delegate. Success of onboarding now has a fear of not having enough HP to delegate attached to it, and no beneficiary rewards either. These are negative incentives.

This is because no dApps have yet adopted the Hiveonboard referral program, that would give us, the ones who refer new users a 3% beneficiary reward. As it is right now, there is zero beneficiary rewards for onboarding new people.

In fact, the incentives are currently misaligned and stacked against people who refer a lot of new users and who delegate HP to new users. This is the opposite of what should be happening.

Let me make it really clear.

Without a positive incentive, why would anyone on Hive make a good effort to onboard new people?

Let’s face, they won’t.

I've had some really active Hivers even tell me this recently. They are not pushing for onboarding new people because there is no incentive to do so. The thing is, the referral program is already built, we are just waiting for the dapps to adopt it. That is why I am writing this post. I am ready to do more onoboarding once a dapp adopts the Hiveonboard referral program. I would prefer it to be peakd, because that is the most used site for me personally.

Now, what if a 3% beneficiary reward existed with every new person you onboard? How would that affect influencers to onboard new people?

I think we all know the answer.

Onboarding new users is an art form. Many people don't really enjoy it, but some of us do like doing this work, and enjoy checking up on new people to find ways to help them.

If you are a Hive Dapp owner, (@asgarth, @theycallmedan,others) let us know if you are planning to adopt the Hiveonboard referral program and what timeframe. We have some decent marketing initiatives in the works, but until this is adopted, it's not worth doing.

Imagine influencers like @coruscate and others who have large followings. We could help them create a Hive onboarding campaign that brings in real results, and which they would have an interest in doing, due to the 3% beneficiary rewards.

And we could help them onboard new people, by checking on their referral tracking dashboard, too.

As a reminder, Hiveonboard.com was built by @roomservice.

Support for PeakD confirmed. We actually discussed this system with @roomservice before it was officially available on hiveonboard 😄

I just have to complete some other updates first, but definitely planned 👍

AWESOME NEWS! Is there a timeframe for this completion!
Thanks for responding!!!
Time to celebrate!

Not an official date, but hopefully in the next 1-2 weeks.

Infographic section is really awesome. Keep it up!

Yes yes yes! They should get on this ASAP!

That's an awesome infographic! Will definitely refer to it in next weeks Newbee Digest.

I have mixed feelings about the 3% beneficiary reward, because that kind of referral system gives it a MLM-like vibe (which it in no way is, but people could mistake it for it).

For now I'm delegating my referrals 15 HP as suggested, until I run out and there are already a couple of people on standby who I can go to if help is needed.

I do think people that invest time in onboarding could be rewarded and I'm willing to delegate 100 HP to the person who onboards the most people in June. It's not much, but it's a start right? And there sure will be more people on the chain willing to contribute.

Referral programs don't work if people lose money in referring new users.
That's just a fact. As i said in the post, advanced users can turn off this beneficiary setting, once they get more knowledge.

No big influencer will even bother onboarding if there is not some economic benefit for them. That's just the reality.

True.

But, looking at the big picture. I personally don't onboard people to economically benefit from it directly. Indirectly, I know proper onboarding leads to a bigger community, a bigger community leads to better proof of work, which leads to interest in the blockchain. The bigger the blockchain gets, the more we all gain from it. Sometimes you don't have to economically benefit straight away.

What @roomservice built is pure gold. It has never been so easy to onboard someone. So, I want to support something that is good. I can delegate 100 HP to a service that gives me the highest reward, but I rather delegate 100 HP to the person that onboards the most people in June. So let me know if there is any interest in that offer. If not, I'll fully understand.

#lobi

yes, definitely! We are in the planning stages of having a contest to see who can onboard the most users, so your 100 HP offer is great! I'll keep you updated as we get more concrete timelines. Thank you.

Awesome! I'll make sure to reserve the 100 HP. Feel free to tag me in the contest posts. 👍

yes i will! thank you!

As for the referral program, you know which 'crypto' referral programs are best known around the world? OneCoin and DagCoin...And yes, I know...👀

I would never want to hear people to associate Hive with that, hence my concerns.

Well, those are scams. People who get help in the beginning, and who start earning on Hive will know this is a decent place. The beneficiary rewards actually incentivize people to help others. This is a positive thing. It's not related at all to scams. Let's face it, unless we all get serious about onboarding, Hive will just remain a small niche thing.

Exciting times! GREAT WORK on this!!
