Robot Servers Still Face Challenges In Restaurants

We have seen more robots welcomed into restaurants around the world today, they have proven to be beneficial when it comes to labor shortages and excel at certain tasks. However, there are still some shortcomings and some have suggested that perhaps they aren't close to replacing their human staff entirely anytime soon.

Where are some areas they are falling short? The robots might not be the best at delivering certain dishes, like hot soup, if they make abrupt stops. Also, when the floor organization changes, with tables being combined for large groups, this can also confuse the robot on where to go. In some instances human staff still need to follow the robot to the table to be sure that everything is going to go smoothly.

They might be seen bringing dishes out, or carting dirty dishes back to the kitchen, but there are a variety of tasks that they might not be replacing just yet. However, for food joints that are looking at difficulty in hiring human staff they can play an important role, offering restaurant owners a chance to still keep things up and running even if they are struggling to find someone to fill the role.

From security to food deliveries we have seen further automation come about around the market, often times offering a cost effective and more efficient solution to business owners in different arenas. This is one market that is expected to continue growing, some have estimated that the robotics market overall could reach some $40+ billion this year alone.

Some have hailed robot servers to be the future, along with fully automated restaurants, but there are still many who prefer a human exchange when it comes to food service and customer service in general. Perhaps we aren't close to seeing everything turn in that direction anytime soon.
