Recientemente fui por primera vez al Museo de la Cultura de Valencia, Venezuela. Estaba en la ciudad y no quería desperdiciar la oportunidad de visitarlo, la exposición actual es de Pablo Picasso y es un espectáculo!
I recently went for the first time to the Museum of Culture in Valencia, Venezuela. I was in town and didn't want to miss the opportunity to visit it, the current exhibition is of Pablo Picasso and it is a spectacle!
En conmemoración a los 50 años del fallecimiento del pintor, el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas inició esta exposición el año pasado, con la intención de conectar a la población con el placer del arte. Obras de cerámica, pintura en papel y oleos, forman parte de esta hermosa colección que se encuentra en Carabobo desde hace unos meses y se prevé que sea así un par de meses más. Concluido este tiempo retornarán a las instalaciones del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas, así que si se encuentran cerca, aprovechen la oportunidad.
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the painter's death, the Contemporary Art Museum of Caracas started this exhibition last year, with the intention of connecting the population with the pleasure of art. Ceramic works, paintings on paper and oil paintings, are part of this beautiful collection that has been in Carabobo for a few months and is expected to be so for a couple of months more. At the end of this time they will return to the facilities of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas, so if you are near, doon't miss the opportunity to visit it.
Para mí fue emocionante aprender tantas cosas sobre el artista y descubrir que todas esas obras son originales. En mi ignorancia creí que eran réplicas cuando, de hecho, hay muchas que son primeras ediciones. Gracias a uno de los jóvenes encargados de guiar la visita pude saber mucho sobre las obras y la vida del artista, todo esto mientras recorríamos cuadro por cuadro la Sala Roja donde se encontraban.
It was exciting for me to learn so many things about the artist and to discover that all these works are originals. In my ignorance I thought they were replicas when, in fact, there are many that are first editions. Thanks to one of the young people in charge of guiding the visit, I was able to learn a lot about the works and the artist's life, all this while we went painting by painting through the Red Room where they were located.
Gran parte de la colección fue donada en vida por el propio Picasso al Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas, dada su cercana relación con Sofía Imber quien, entre otras cosas, fue gran promotora del arte y la cultura en Venezuela. El resto de la colección fue comprada por el museo.
A large part of the collection was donated in his lifetime by Picasso himself to the museum of contemporary art in Caracas, given his close relationship with Sofia Imber who, among other things, was a great promoter of art and culture in Venezuela. The rest of the collection was purchased by the museum.
Al entrar a las instalaciones te recibe Guernica, una réplica del mural pintado por el artista en París alrededor de 1930 durante la Guerra Civil Española. Desde luego, a simple vista retrata el dolor de lo que se vivía en ese momento a través de los colores sombríos y las facies de sufrimiento retratadas en la pintura de oleo.
Upon entering the facilities you are greeted by Guernica, a replica of the mural painted by the artist in Paris around 1930 during the Spanish Civil War. Of course, at first glance it portrays the pain of what was going on at the time through the somber colors and the suffering faces portrayed in the oil painting.
Otra de las obras que me llamó la atención fue la serie de litografías del Toro, donde comienza con el dibujo realista del animal y progresivamente va simplificando el dibujo, atravesando el cubismo, diseccionándolo y descomponiéndolo hasta llegar a su forma más básica. El animal perdió muchos de sus elementos excepto los cuernos y los genitales (este último presente en toda la serie y en varios cuadros de la colección).
Another of the works that caught my attention was the series of lithographs of the Bull, where he begins with the realistic drawing of the animal and progressively simplifies the drawing, going through cubism, dissecting and decomposing it until it reaches its most basic form. The animal lost many of its elements except for the horns and genitals (this last is present throughout the series and in several paintings in the collection).
Los retratos también resaltaban en la exposición. La mayoría de ellos eran de Jacqueline, su última pareja, con quien estuvo alrededor de 20 años. Su turbulenta vida amorosa se representa en muchos elementos de su obra.
Portraits also featured prominently in the exhibition. Most of them were of Jacqueline, his last partner, with whom he spent about 20 years. His turbulent love life is represented in many elements of his work.
La Sala Verde del museo es un área interactiva donde niños y adultos podían darse el gusto de pintar y jugar con recursos alusivos a la obra de Picasso.
The museum's Green Room is an interactive area where children and adults could indulge in painting and playing with resources alluding to Picasso's work.
Disfruté mucho de mi propia compañía. Fue una tarde diferente donde me moví a mi ritmo, viendo todos los cuadros con paciencia y volviendo al anterior porque algún detalle me pareció curioso. Feliz de querer saber más sobre arte y porque finalmente pude visitarlo, después de varias semanas queriendo hacerlo.
I enjoyed my own company very much. It was a different afternoon where I moved at my own pace, looking at all the paintings patiently and going back to the previous one because some detail seemed curious to me. Happy to want to know more about art and because I was finally able to visit it, after several weeks wanting to do so.
