Beshenstvo

After watching the Russian film The Factory (Zavod) last week, I did a mini research on Russian cinema. What pushed me to do this research was the fact that the story was handled differently in the Russian film I watched and I liked the progression of the story.

The fact that stories, where everything starts in fiction and matures in the mind, are reflected differently on the big screen increases the choice of films to watch and country cinema to follow. While I like most of them, sometimes I want to get away from the point of view of Hollywood cinema and the fake heroes it creates. At such times, it is a pleasure to watch the productions of different countries that are not influenced by the Hollywood trend.

I mentioned my mini-research, which led me to the 2023 movie Beshenstvo. Before I get into the movie and the story, I would like to mention the spectacular Siberian landscape. The location chosen for the movie was absolutely spectacular and very fitting for the story of the movie.

The movie tells the story of a father who wants to cure his drug addicted son with his own methods. The elements that are added to the father's efforts and add to the immersion of the movie form the overall story of Beshenstvo.

In this kind of movie, I find it important to make sure that the story that is added later on is in harmony with the main story because when you are immersed in the movie and you get into the story, the movie becomes a jumble and by the time it ends, it is hard to have a clear idea of what you are watching.

Don't expect me to say that the movie is bad or mediocre when I'm under the influence of the magnificent scenery, because I would watch the movie just for the scenery. Apart from the scenery, what impressed me the most was the focus on the consequences of the broken bond between father and son. The short story about the disconnect between them is one of my favorite scenes of the movie.

The character of a strong father who wants to keep his son alive at all costs is successfully created in the movie. The acting performance of Alexei Serebryakov, who plays the character of Igor, has a great impact on this, and from the beginning to the end; he tells with ambition what he would do to keep his son alive.

Of course, achieving every goal comes at a price, and the price is the price of success. Sometimes we question whether it is worth it, but when we overcome difficulties; we don't think too much about what we leave behind. The movie ends with a drama scene that contradicts this.

Time is already working hard enough to take our loved ones away from us and we call it fate, but we don't realize that we are knowingly or unknowingly helping time, or when we do, it's too late.

I recommend you to watch Beshenstvo with its tear-jerking finale. In addition to the beautiful scenery, the additional storyline makes you feel the tension at its peak. I can say that the fluidity of the movie consumes time quickly. Could there have been a better ending? For those who expect a happy ending, yes, but I think it is better as it is.

Thank you very much for being here and reading. See you in my next article, goodbye!
