What’s your reason going to cafe? is it just for hanging out? one in a blue moon thing? did you ever hear something like, if people stop buying overpriced coffee, they all be rich and own houses. You know, maybe there’s some truth to that.
Coffee prices inside cafe are determined not just from the beans itself but also the conveniences and the barista skills who brew the coffee. So, it’s why some cafe sell their coffee above $3 and sometimes $6 just for a cup of joe. While for some people that price is not justifiable, for some who loves coffee and borderline addict, would justify the price. For busy people, getting morning coffee instead making it themselves is also price worth paying.
For me, I started making them on my own lately and only going once in a while. It doesn’t taste that different because I already know the trick and the how to make proper filter coffee. I let you in on a secret, the water used is not just any water. Purified water or bottled water is best to make this. We have brands called Aqua in the country and that’s the standard, although some brewer use their own purified water. So, it’s one of the thing I do to make my coffee taste just like how it’s made at coffee shop.
If you want to enjoy quality coffee but don’t have fancy coffee machine to make espresso, just brew filter coffee, they taste great and also helps you profile beans better than if it was an espresso.

Hang out with friends or just take out some coffee. But it's mostly taking out 3 or 4 shots per cup of coffee and look at the barista in the eye dead serious that I take my caffeine seriously.
I think the prices incorporates all the amenities provided by the place. It's the atmosphere you're also paying for with good company. But people forget this part if their only task is to have it take out or order by food delivery. I mean, if you paid for a hotel room, you also get free access to the pool, gym and other places in the hotel but you only used the room by choice so it feels like it's overpriced.

@adamada hahahahahaha I can imagine. I am actually surprised lately I get free shots at coffee shops. Maybe cause I am a regular? in a lot of places sometimes if I want extra 3-4 shots, I'd be charged more. Is it the same over there if you want extra shots, you'd be charged extra?

Probably a regular, I earned this benefit after months of buying coffee at the same place at the same time in a shop. The bonus is having small talks which lets the owners do added favors for you without asking anything. This is still part of the coffee shop experience imo, because the people running the business are still part of the atmosphere.
As for extra shots, the rates is equal to how much 1 shot of expresso is on top of what coffee ordered but one can usually get a discount at the 4th shot if they're a patron.
Despite the fact that there are places where the coffee is very good, there is nothing like home-made coffee. Recently in a course for varista, my wife was told that the best coffee is the one you buy in beans, since you can verify that you are getting coffee and not a bunch of chemical products. I appreciate very much this nice post, I will follow your advice regarding the preparation of coffee.
