Hello monochrome #Hive friends!... Welcome to a new edition of my monochromatic street photography series for our beloved #monomad challenge. Today I have to share with you some photos of an everyday nature, taken with the cadence of my own streets in Montalbán where time seems to pass slowly...

¡Hola amigos monocromáticos en #Hive!... Bienvenidos a una nueva edición de mis series de fotografías callejeras monocromáticas para nuestro querido reto #monomad. Hoy tengo para compartir con ustedes algunas fotos de carácter cotidiano, realizadas con la cadencia propia de mis calles en Montalbán en donde el tiempo parece transcurrir lentamente...

"Carlos posing for a portrait" / _{"Carlos posa para un retrato"}

Carlos, my old high school classmate whose memory seemed to have left him long ago, recognises me despite his almost mystical oblivion and says to me: Hey Linares! (he always preferred to call me by my surname) ‘Take a photo of me smoking a cigar’... Carlos is frozen in time, always behaving like a high school boy, his conversations often revolve around memories of the mid-80s and little else...

Carlos, mi antiguo compañero de secundaria al cual su memoria pareció abandonarle hace tiempo, me reconoce a pesar de su olvido casi místico y me dice: ¡Hey Linares! (siempre prefirió llamarme por mi apellido) "Hazme una foto fumando un puro"... Carlos se quedó congelado en el tiempo, comportándose siempre como un muchacho de secundaria, sus conversaciones suelen girar en tono a recuerdos de mediado de los 80 y pocas cosas más...

"Daniel asking for coffee" / _{"Daniel pidiendo café"}

Daniel stops at the door of a house and asks for a coffee cup as a gift. It's not something he does in every house in town, but there are several families who like to give charity to many here and Daniel seems to know the homes of these kind and charitable families very well.

Daniel se detiene en la puerta de una casa y pide le sea regalada una tasa de café. No es algo que haga en cualquier casa del pueblo, pero sí hay varias familias que gustan de dar caridad a muchos aquí y Daniel parece saber perfectamente cuales son las casas de esas familias amabes y caritativas.

"The paramedic" / _{"El paramédico"}

A paramedic walks along one of the few busy streets in town (Miranda Avenue) they are true heroes, they continue to do their work despite their low salaries and some even do it voluntarily without receiving anything in return. Like many of our public institutions, civil protection has been severely affected by the national economic crisis.

Un paramédico va por una de las pocas calles concurridas del pueblo (La Av. Miranda) Ellos son verdaderos héroes, siguen haciendo su trabajo a pesar de sus bajos salarios e incluso algunos lo hacen voluntariamente sin recibir nada a cambio. Como muchas de nuestras instituciones públicas, las de protección civil se han visto afectadas severamente por la crisis económica nacional.

"Is 2024 really here?" / _{"¿Realmente es 2024 aquí?"}

Sometimes I go through the streets of the village and the simple presence of an old Ford car of more than 50 years of age, presents me with a scene that could well correspond to 1970, but with a level of abandonment greater that which was really lived in those years...

Algunas veces voy por las calles del pueblo y la simple presencia de un viejo auto Ford de más 50 años de edad me obsequia una escena la cual bien podría corresponder a 1970, pero con una nivel de abandono mayor a el que se vivía realmente en aquellos años...

"In the Kiosks' streets" / _{"En las calle de los Kioscos"}

The lonely streets or ‘no potential customers’ do not bode well for the owners of the small grocery kiosks. However, these are people with an iron will and a great spirit for hard work, so they do not cease in their daily efforts to earn their livelihoods and do the best to remain optimistic.

Las calles solitarias o lo que es lo mismo "sin clientes potenciales", no son un buen presagio para los dueños de los pequeños kioscos de víveres. Sin embargo, se trata de personas con voluntad de hierro y con gran espíritu de trabajo; así que no cesan en su empeño diario de ganarse su sustento y hacen lo posible por mantener el optimismo al máximo.

"Mirtha's little window" / _{"La ventanita de Mirtha"}

When I was a little boy of about 7 or 8 years old (I am now 53) I would gather some coins given to me by my parents, grandparents and uncles; then it was time to run to the house of the sweet Mrs. Mirtha, who earned her living making biscuits and cakes which she sold to people (especially children) through her little window overlooking the street. Today, the little window is still there, but inside the house is empty, and of the lovely Mrs. Mirtha only memories remain in me and others who, like me, enjoyed buying and eating her biscuits when we are children...

Cuando yo era un chiquillo de unos 7 u 8 años de edad (ahora tengo 53) reunía algunas monedas que me daban mis padres, mis abuelos y mis tíos; entonces era el momento de ir corriendo a la casa de la dulce Señora Mirtha, quien se ganaba la vida haciendo galletas y pasteles, los cuales vendía a las personas (especialmente a los niños) a través de su pequeña ventana con vista a la calle. Hoy por hoy, la ventanita sigue allí, pero dentro la casa está vacía, de la adorable Sra. Mirtha solo quedan los recuerdos míos y de otros quienes como yo, disfrutábamos comprando y comiendo sus dulces cuando eramos niños...

"Little brothers on the street" / _{"Hermanitos callejeros"}

As you know, in my village the streets are often full of stray dogs. However, most of them are not really homeless dogs, many belong to families and people just let them roam the streets (a custom that is not right for me, but very ingrained in the people of the village) so seeing little puppies like these on the streets is something feasible. They look really adorable in their first street adventures, but -at least for this pair- I could see which house they came from and I introduced them back to their place of origin...

Tal como ustedes saben, en mi pueblo las calles suelen estar repletas de perros callejeros. Sin embargo, no se trata en su mayoría de perros realmente desamparados, muchos pertenecen a familias y simplemente las personas les dejan vagar por las calles (una costumbre para mi nada correcta, pero muy arraigada en las personas del pueblo) así que ver pequeños cachorros como estos en las calles es algo factible. Lucen verdaderamente adorables en sus primeras aventuras callejeras, pero -cuando menos a este par- pude observar de cual casa salieron y les introduje de nuevo a su lugar de origen...

"Everyday life in the east of town" / _{"Cotidianidad al Este del pueblo"}

It's strange, the land to the east of the village was rural when I was a kid. Now there is a sort of ‘new town’ here which emerged in the 1990s. At first there seemed to be a promise of urban development and evolution of the village, however this did not happen and this ‘new emerging part of the village’ stagnated and even evolved, becoming a place which makes me reflect when I walk through it.

Es curioso, los terrenos al Este del pueblo eran rurales cuando yo era un niño. Ahora hay aquí una especie de "pueblo reciente" en cual emergió en la década de los 90 del siglo pasado. Al principio parecía haber una promesa de urbanismo y evolución del pueblo, sin embargo esto no ocurrió así y ese "nuevo sector emergente del pueblo" se estancó e incluso evolucionó, convirtiéndose en un lugar el cual me hace reflexionar cuando camino por allí.
