One of the things they always tell you when you go hiking is "don't leave the trails", and they say it with good reason. When you are in a forest, it is very easy to get disoriented, and even more so when you are in a place where you can't even get a cell phone signal. Even though I was quite careful on this walk, I couldn't help getting a little lost, but that's what ended up making the walk fun. Fun because I finally got where I wanted to be and got to where I wanted to be 😅.
Una de las cosas que siempre te dicen cuando salís a hacer senderismo es que "no te salgas de los senderos habilitados", y lo dicen con razón. Cuando uno se encuentra en un bosque, desorientarse es muy fácil, y más aún cuando estás en un lugar en donde ni siquiera llega la señal de celular. A pesar de haber sido bastante cuidadosa en este paseo, no pude evitar perderme un poco, pero es lo que al fin de cuentas terminó haciendo divertido el paseo. Divertido porque al fin logré ubicarme y llegué hasta donde quería 😅.
When I came to work at the hostel in Ushuaia, I was very lucky because I was able to make some friends quite easily. With them we shared many treks and good times having dinner together, or playing dice and drinking some wine in the evenings. But of course, everyone has their own interests within their own trip and we didn't always coincide to do everything together. This was one of those days, where we all had different plans for our afternoon and I had to go for a walk alone. My idea was to go to a place not so far away that was on the way to the Martial Glacier, a trail that I had already walked a few days before, but that was on the side of the main road 😃.
Cuando llegué a trabajar al hostel en Ushuaia, tuve mucha suerte porque pude hacer algunos amigos con bastante facilidad. Con ellos compartimos muchos trekkings y buenos momentos cenando juntos, o jugando dados y tomando algo de vino en las noches. Pero por supuesto, cada uno tiene sus propios intereses dentro de su propio viaje y no siempre coincidíamos para hacer todo juntos. Este fue un día de esos, en donde todos teníamos planes diferentes para nuestra tarde y me tocó salir sola a caminar. Mi idea fue ir a un lugar no tan alejado que se encontraba camino al Glaciar Martial, un sendero que ya había recorrido días atrás, pero que se abría paso hacia el costado del camino principal 😃.
Of course, most tourists continue on their way to the beautiful and impressive Martial Glacier, so there are few who detour this way. These trails lead to a number of viewpoints of the city and the mountains, which may not be extremely attractive to passing visitors. But since I was going to be in the area for a few days, I could afford to go for a walk even to these not-so-crowded places. That's what I like most about long stays as I trade work for accommodation 💕.
Por supuesto que la mayoría de los turistas continua su camino al hermoso e imponente Glaciar Martial, así que son pocos los que se desvían por este camino. Estos senderos conducen a una serie de miradores de la ciudad y las montañas, que quizás no resulten extremadamente atractivos para los visitantes de paso. Pero como yo iba a estar unos cuantos días por la zona, podía permitirme ir a pasear incluso hasta estos lugares no tan concurridos. Eso es lo que más me gusta de las estadías largas mientras intercambio trabajo por alojamiento 💕.
Since there was very clear signage at the entrance to these trails, I thought the trail would be well marked but that was not the case. After a bit of walking, the trail quickly entered a lenga forest with several trail options to follow. I took it upon myself to follow the one that seemed the most marked, but after a while I didn't understand where to continue. At that moment I thought about whether to keep going or not, but luckily I met a couple who also wanted to go to those viewpoints and who were also a little lost, so the three of us continued the walk together 😃.
Como en la entrada de estos senderos había una cartelería muy clara, pensé que el sendero estaría bien señalizado pero no fue tan así. Después de caminar un poco, el camino rápidamente entró en un bosque de lengas con varias opciones de camino para recorrer. Me encargué de seguir aquel que me parecía más marcado, pero despues de un rato no entendí por donde continuar. En ese momento pensé en si seguir avanzando o no, pero por suerte me encontré con una pareja que también querían ir a esos miradores y que también estaban un poco perdidos, así que continuamos el paseo los tres juntos 😃.
I don't know if I would be interrupting their romantic walk somehow, but the truth is that I didn't want to get lost in the forest, so I stayed with them so that between the three of us we could make the decisions to go through the place. This forest area had a few signs with signs warning about the use of snowshoes in winter season and there were also signs about being careful with the ski slopes, which made us realize the main use of this place when everything is covered with snow. In summer, the landscape was quite brown from peat and snowmelt, but surely with all the white blanket this landscape must be completely different 💕.
No sé si estaría interrumpiendo su paseo romántico de algún modo, pero la verdad es que yo no quería seguir perdida en el bosque, así que me quedé con ellos para que entre los tres tomemos las decisiones para recorrer el lugar. Esta zona de bosque tenía algunas pocas señalizaciones con carteles que advertían sobre el uso de raquetas en temporada invernal y también habían carteles sobre tener cuidado con las pistas de ski, lo que nos hizo dar cuenta del principal uso de este lugar cuando todo está cubierto de nieve. En verano, el paisaje estaba bastante marrón por la turba y el deshielo, pero seguramente con todo el manto blanco este paisaje debe ser completamente diferente 💕.
The first viewpoint we found was Cerro Martial, which by that point was already unmistakable to me. The second viewpoint we had to find was the Beagle Channel. Despite being three heads thinking, we still could not avoid getting lost and started walking along the wrong path. My offline map indicated that we were heading towards a waterfall called Nahiara, something not planned, and although we were not far from there, my companions did not want to continue. I didn't want to continue walking alone in the forest either, so I went back with them and it turned out that the second viewpoint was very close to the first one. It was even marked with colored markers, so we did not understand how we did not see it before 😅.
El primer mirador que encontramos fue el del Cerro Martial, que para ese punto ya era inconfundible para mí. El segundo mirador que teníamos que encontrar era el del Canal de Beagle. A pesar de ser tres cabezas pensando, igualmente no pudimos evitar perdernos y empezamos a caminar por un sendero erróneo. Mi mapa sin conexión me indicaba que estábamos yendo en dirección a una cascada llamada Nahiara, algo no planeado, y a pesar de que nos faltaba poco para llegar, mis acompañantes no quisieron continuar. Yo tampoco quería seguir caminando sola en el bosque, así que me volví con ellos y resulta que el segundo mirador estaba muy cerca del primero. Incluso estaba señalizado con marcas de colores, por lo que no entendímos cómo no lo vimos antes 😅.
The viewpoint over the Beagle Channel was very nice and you could get a good view of the city from there. If we had taken out the parts where we got lost, it might have taken us only an hour to get to both, but we ended up taking more than twice as long. The good thing is that with my hiking companions we were together until the end and they offered to drive me back to my hostel. It was a great afternoon walking with improvised friends, and when I finally recovered my internet connection, the first thing I did was to look for pictures of the Nahiara Waterfall so that my walk would not be incomplete 😅.
El mirador del Canal de Beagle era muy lindo y se podía obtener una buena vista de la ciudad desde allá. Si hubiésemos sacado las partes en las que nos perdimos, quizás nos hubiese tomado solo una hora llegar hasta ambos, pero terminamos tardando más del doble. Lo bueno es que con mis compañeros de caminata estuvimos juntos hasta el final y se ofrecieron llevarme en su auto hasta mi hostel. Fue una gran tarde caminando con amigos improvisados, y cuando finalmente recuperé mi conexión a internet, lo primero que hice fue buscar fotos de la Cascada Nahiara para que mi paseo no quedara incompleto 😅.

Yess! In Ushuaia there is the Cerro Castor (https://www.cerrocastor.com/es_ar/home.html) 😃-
There are also other ski resorts in my country such as Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Cerro Chapelco in San Martin de los Andes, Las Leñas in Mendoza and La Hoya in Esquel (all separated by hundreds of kilometers from each other haha).

Getting lost in the woods happened to me many times since I travel solo haha.. but sometimes, unexpected paths lead you to more beautiful destinations , 😊
It's true, it's very easy to get lost but most of the time you find your way around... as long as you don't get caught in the night 😅.
