My love for Tolkien's works began many years ago, when I was just a child and it was a long time before they started making the movies. When the films arrived, this love joined the love of several others in my circle, and we shared this love with each other. We always went to the movies at the premieres, we organized nights to see the extended movies. And we read, we read a lot.

Cada quien se fue alejando, porque así suele ser la vida, los amigos de la universidad crecen, forman familias y se van, o como pasó en mi caso, me mudé de ciudad. Y aunque el amor es el mismo, tal vez este tipo de cosas ya no se hacen como antes.

Little by little, my friends and I left this love a little aside. Each one of us moved away, because that's how life tends to be, friends from college grow up, form families and leave, or as it happened in my case, I moved to a new city. Ayer, 25 de marzo, un día después de mi cumpleaños, fue el Día mundial de leer a Tolkien y una vez más, hubo otra reunión, pequeñita pero muy amena. This doesn't mean that we are alone, nor does it mean that you can't get a group of lovers like before. Fortunately, here in my hometown, I was able to find a group of Tolkien lovers, who earlier this year organized a gathering on the professor's birthday.
Yesterday, March 25, one day after my birthday, was World Read Tolkien Day and once again, there was another gathering, tiny but very enjoyable. Several people read excerpts, among them @jauregui98. I just listened and contemplated, anyone would say I was being modest, but the reality, and although it may not seem so, is that I am shy for these things. Anyway, I enjoyed the afternoon like you have no idea.

Lo mejor de todo esto, además de pasar un rato escuchando las lecturas de mi autor favorito, es que dentro de una torta decorada con una temática Hobbit, con la puerta de un Smial, había una sorpresa maravillosa. Resulta que dentro de la torta, y amarrado con una cinta, se encontraba el anillo único. Para obtenerlo, simplemente había que escoger una cinta y halarla.
Yo ya sabía que esto iba a ser así, cuando vi el anillo por fotografía antes de que lo entregarán a los organizadores, dije que tenía que ser mío, mi precioso, mío.

The best part of all this, besides spending some time listening to readings from my favorite author, is that inside a Hobbit-themed cake decorated with a Smial's door, was a wonderful surprise. It turns out that inside the cake, and tied with a ribbon, was the unique ring. To get it, you simply had to pick a ribbon and pull it.
I already knew this was going to be the case, when I saw the ring in a photograph before it was handed over to the organizers, I said it had to be mine, my precious, mine.

Siempre iba a ser para mí, se hicieron dos intentos porque había más personas que cintas. En la primera vez que hicimos el intento yo había agarrado esa cinta, pero por comodidad agarré la de al lado. Luego, en la segunda vuelta, volví a agarrar la cinta que había agarrado la primera. Cuando halé y sentí la resistencia de que había algo incrustado en la torta y yo no lo podía creer. Fue como en cámara lenta, estaba en shock.

It was always going to be for me, two attempts were made because there were more people than ribbons. On the first time we made the attempt, I had grabbed that ribbon, but for convenience I grabbed the one next to it. Then, on the second round, I went back to grab the ribbon I had grabbed the first one. When I pulled and felt the resistance, there was something embedded in the cake, and I couldn't believe it. It was like slow motion, I was in shock.

Fue un buen día, con un buen regalo, además que fue una ocasión perfecta para terminar de celebrar mi cumpleaños, acompañado de gente genial. It was a good day, with a good gift, plus it was a perfect occasion to finish celebrating my birthday, accompanied by great people.
