it has been over 25 years since i last visited this place and the graffiti was far from new then
i don't recognize all these people but they are clearly icons from the late 60's to early 70's
while the images are worn and weathered i think they look best in this state, both as art technically and as a cultural statement
to get to this place you must walk through Fredriksvern Verft and continue on the path out over the rocks and through the woods on the peninsula and past the diving platforms.
then you come to one of the many military posts/gunmounts along the coast established by the occupying german force during world war 2. they are sores in the beautiful rocky coastal nature but also historical landmarks. the majority of them are eroding and little effort is made to maintain them. the hope is that in time nature will reclaim its loss.
in the meantime the generation of peace and love left its mark on this wartime structure.
but these images of the foreign icons are left to wither away as well.
this contrasts with Kikut, the red lookout on top of the island across the sound. Kikut is a well-kept iconic military structure built by the local Norwegian heroes in the 1700s
it is a curious complex sight to behold
'alt handler om' translates as 'it's all about' and we are left to ponder just what that is. what it meant to those who painted it may be quite different to what it means to me or any present-day viewer

I think the weathering really adds an artistic flare to these and probably even enhances the feeling of looking at history here.
agreed. i never saw them as new but i am sure i would have liked them less than i do now. i am not a fan of graffiti in general but nature and time have added dimensions to the paint
