The Less They Know The Better

In the past, I used to brag about how I respected the privacy of people. All this was down to the fact that I wouldn’t go through a person's messages if he or she gave me his or her phone to hold. For me, it was totally wrong to pry into someone’s private life without seeking permission to do so. Fast forward to now and all I can say is things haven’t changed very much.

How would you feel if you woke up one day and found out that your WhatsApp chats had been leaked and are circulating on the internet? Bad right. This is exactly why we have to pay so much attention to our private lives if not we will have to pay so dearly for them.

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine the other time and all the man could tell me was that he hated people who pried into his private life. According to the man he lives in a staff Bungalow, one thing about this staff bungalow is that you are not the only one in that space as it’s an area field with the company’s buildings which is meant for staff.

Now, in that area, the man tells me there is gossip that he has never allowed into his house. When he said it, my first thought was oh, it’s a normal thing to do but then he went ahead to tell me that when even it was raining the other time he didn’t allow the man into his home.

I clearly said to him that I thought that it was too extreme as he should have let him in for at least a little time till the rain stopped. He said with this man he would prefer he didn’t know a single thing about him. You’ll later on understand how dear your private life is. The saying the less they know the better is a perfect example of that. Because of all this, I used to have a lock on my WhatsApp for a while until I got tired of it and removed it.

For me being a private person is a serious deal. I wouldn’t like people to know a lot about me which is why I hardly confide in people. But you should also know that the fact that you think or want people to know less about you doesn’t mean there won’t be fake rumours about you from time to time. It depends on you; would you like to clear your name or allow them to say whatever they want to? For me, I wouldn’t say a lot when I know it’s a lie. I’ve been a victim of this countless times and I never try to explain. Whoever you tell whatever about me is your own palaver.

So the question is how far will you go to protect your privacy? Are you letting a lot of people into your space when you shouldn’t be allowing them in your space normally? Ideally, I wouldn’t even set up a wall or fence at home just because I want to limit people's access to me. All I know is I’d know what and how I speak around a lot of people as privacy is dear to me as it is dear to you.
