Garden, Bat Stand, Beef, Coop, Dinner Date, Turkeys, Rain, Trailer - Saturday

in Homesteading14 days ago

The garden managed the near freezing temps overnight with ease yesterday. I pulled the row covers from the couple of rows and was happy to find everything looking nice and happy and solid with no damage.

I figured out the coop door opener code, I had the time adjustment at the end of the loop instead the beginning so the door_open variable was being read before it was being set. Now it works since the code reads the "set time by date" section then the rest of the code runs.

Mid morning J was out with a bat and ball on the driveway and R came in gasping in amazement. I went out and J had spun the bat in the air and it landed perfect on the tip, standing straight in the air.

He then kept trying to make it happen again most of the day. I even said to him, "now you'll be trying that forever," as he walked off down the driveway.

We had our quarter of beef to pickup at the ranch and we got there right at 11am when we wanted to. Lone Crow is great and this amazing bison pelt was hanging inside. $800 for it and DAMN is it soft.

We got a few more bison steaks to add to our dwindling supply. They have a very nice selection of various cuts of beef, bison, and pork. We got our 2 boxes of beef loaded into the car then drove across the yard to the pizza and ice cream shop.

There we all got ice cream, the boys had to have the uber colored ones. I got a quart to bring home.

The damn birds have been kicking the dirt and debris at the door base so the door doesn't shut all the way. I have to keep it raked out to make sure it closes correct.

It was threatening most of the day until the afternoon when it finally dropped some rain.

Mid afternoon we had our sitter over to watch the boys for a couple hours while @stryeyz and I went out for dinner. We went for a drive up to the Blanchard Hump to see if I could see the area I want to fly but it was hidden behind the ridge so we just headed for food.

They recently opened in Elk and have received a very warm welcome from the community. We got seated about 4:15pm and were in at a nice time as more and more people showed up after us.

We both got margaritas which were well dosed with tequila. The woman at the table on the right side of the image in the gray shirt got hers and made a super puckered face and her eyes got super wide as she looked at the other people at her table. The drinks were nicely liqoured.

I ordered the #12 and got a massive platter served to me. It is easily two meals and I have my lunch for today. Super tasty and the employees are all super nice and upbeat. We had been wanting to try them for a while so it was great to get to.

We were on the way home and decided to stop off up the road from the house at our local bar Patsy's for a drink.

The LED grow light in the corner made for some interesting lighting.

After the 2 mile drive home we were walking around the farm with our sitter showing her a few things and I grabbed one of our young tom turkeys. He was rather talkative.

As we stood and talked by the coop a band of showers came trundling across the valley. I watched the wall of white come at us through the trees until the rain hit and within minutes it had moved past.

We got out to soak at our normal time and I was in for about an hour. Then I remembered...

IMG_20240518_200250.jpg

I had to get the trailer hooked up for my grain run I have done this morning.

IMG_20240518_213201.jpg

I have been to town for grain and will go empty the trailer in a bit. Man Utd's last match of the PL season is on soon which likely will be a shit show, I have to rake the grass and try dealing with the old strawberry area, stuff seeds in the ground that I didn't do yesterday, then this evening I will get a fire going and grill for dinner.
