Blockchain Poets Photo Challenge #2 | Soul Searching At Erfoud and Merzouga

This post is several days overdue because I was away to care for my husband, @rencalson, who was hospitalized with the flu. Thankfully, he was discharged on Tuesday and is now resting at home as per the doctor's orders. He will be staying home from work all week. It has been a tiring week for the whole family, but I'm relieved he has recovered and the flu didn't spread to me or the kids.

This is also my first post in the Blockchain Poets community. Sharing my writings here feels a bit intimidating, mainly because English is my third language. Although I have posted about my poetry-related drawings before, this is my first time sharing my poetry. If you're reading this and feel inclined to leave a comment, please be gentle 😅.

The prompt for this poem is based on a photo (Photo Challenge #2). It's a photo of a man sitting on a dune or a desert.

I've never been to a desert, so I don't have direct experience of what it's like. However, I knew someone who went on a soul-searching journey to Morocco and spent time in the Merzouga Desert and the oasis town of Erfoud. I drew from his experiences for this poem, but many elements are based on my imagination.

I'm a bit old-fashioned, so I prefer writing my poems in a notebook rather than digitally. Here's a screenshot of the draft.

This is a long poem with 14 stanzas. I prefer to share my poems as images rather than typing them directly into the editor to prevent copying and pasting. I hope the font is readable and not too small 😅.

I love creating drawings to accompany my poetry. Drawing allows me to express myself not just through words but also through images. Here is the drawing I made specifically for this poem.

That's it for now. If you read this far, thank you. I appreciate it so much! Kindly give me a follow if you like my content. I mostly write about making art, life musing, and our mundane yet charming family life here in Klang Valley, Malaysia.

Note: All images used belong to me unless stated otherwise.

Thank you for visiting and reading my post. I hope you like it!
